I am having a hard time understanding your English. Do you mean to say something along the lines of WILL they advance the time line and asking if they don't what will happen.
If they do: They will advance it probably another 1 - 10 thousand years and Most likely it will follow the final events where Chaos Daemons, Chaos Marines, Tyranids, Orks are already out number humans will have Quad or more times and over running the galaxy as the dominate force in the universe. Necrons might be on the verge of Extinction as they and everyone else is working for the last Massive Push to wipe out what is left of the Humans and Space Marines.
Terra is over ran by Either Orks,Chaos or Necron Gods since it is believed that a necron god may or may not be the actual Machine god.
Tau will be extinct.
Eldar and Dark Eldar gone and most of the minor races are gone or dwindled to hiding with humans in humbers below a few thousand or hundred....or gone the way of the squat.
Than Most likely depending on whether GW and its writers for the books want to continue the stories. Humanity will be toast and the emperor chopped to bits and pissed on by his golden throne or Humans win and the rest of 40K is all about Humanity going into another Golden Era.
If They do not: Nothing Happens. Everything will stay the same. Only way for anything to happen is to advance to time line.

Considering how codex and rulebook fluff differs:
Humanity will be on the defensive, being pushed back by hordes of Xenos, Black Crusades and warp storms spewing out daemons in the millions. They will be losing planet after planet as they fall back to Terra, Ultramar, and other well defendes systems.
However,, peerless heroes like Calgar, Draigo, Dante and Grimnar will be conquering worlds single handedly, destroying the Chaos gods realms in the warp itself, and generally not doing much other than winning against the mass of enemies.
GW does love their contradicting fluff.

I think that the big push comes. Eldar,Tau and Humans will have to band together to push back the fully awakened Necrons whom will have three gods helping them. The Orks Fly under a single banner and than at the same time you got the "even larger than the horus heresy" Daemon Assault where all the daemons and the chaos gods in the warp storm out for one final Red tide style assault on the galaxy with the planet terra as its final destination.
Than Khorne Destroys the mortal shell of the Emperor, Slannesh defiles "sexually" Sanguinus underneath it while Khorne takes his place at the golden throne and terra is thrown from its orbit as it is transported by daemon god magic into the warp and exits at the eye of terror 1000 years later where it will become one with the warp etc etc.
Automatically Appended Next Post: OH yeah and mars becomes a necron world.

Changes are not something they want at this point. The game is profitable, and people will happily buy the next codex or edition without hesitation.
What advancing the story does is potentially invalidate whole lines of their miniature range. The whole setting is a business strategy, and making drastic changes is something they're only going to do if it is not only financially viable, but financially needed.

What will happened? Imperium will retreat to survive. By holding less teritory they will have more stable defence against the attackers.
Orks will be Orls.
Tau will extinct.
Eldar will have even less population.
Chaos will still be Chaos.
Necrons will begin their war of conquest against galaxy.
Tyranids will still be Tyranids.
and so on...

Tyranids encounter a Necron Tomb World, begin plating all their fighters with Necrodermis and grown Gauss weapons.
Orks take on the Eldar in a big engagement, win, and are now fielding a Looted Avatar of Khaine
Chaos and Tau band together for no reason whatsoever.
Imperium stays Grimdark

I think if they were to even move the timeline on (i highly doubt they will) I think it would go along the lines of the IoM being forced into last stand situations, segmentum solar, Forgeworlds, SM chapter fortresses etc etc .
Then somehow find a way of turning the tide in a moment of genious/fluke meaning all the different army/races will still be playable and nobody gets wiped out.
Plus probably using the oportunity to intorduce new models that were cobbled together during these epic battles. and from my perspective, we all win from it. GW get boosted sales, we get new fluff to ramble on about, and more importantly, new models
(thats what i hope happens anyway )
I dont think they will tie up any loose ends as these 'gaps' in the fluff are what gives players the oportunity to put their own stamp on their armies and get creative in writing their own bit of fluff if they desire.

But really, I would put large amounts of money on them changing very little, things will be the same, same grimdark, same evil-ness, same verge of exstinction. What they may do however (although unlikely) is introduce another race.

Ya I like those ideas I know some of the characters would be dead but it would open up an opportunity for a whole slew of new ones plus fluff and create some new major battles and story's.

The time line won't advance since honestly there is no need to continue it. What is gained by advancing the timeline? Nothing. Heck for all we know humanity could be holding off against all of these forces for another 20,000 years and if the timeline is moved to 50k it could still just be the same thing we've been used to. There's really no need for the timeline to push forward unless they did something with the story that was pivotal and changed the entire universe (the throne stops working, all eldar die, etc).

My dream future would be a sort of harkening back to the Rogue Trader days of beakies, Schadenfreude and Obi-wan Sherlock Clousseau. I actually sort of somewhat kind of in a roundabout way wrote a boilerplate for WH50k, which I then deleted out of shame.
Essentially, the Emperor is gone. Terra is wreathed by warp storms, the Eye of Terror is closed and the Tyranids have been turned into roving locust swarms, a thousandth of their original size. The Space Marine Chapters have become warbands bound by a worship of the Emperor and tradition, but many are just savage mercenaries of mutated humans. The Imperium is fractured and failed; the Adeptus Mechanicus is no more, Guild Navigators are few and far between, and technology is more schizophrenic and unreliable than ever before. The Tau are gone, but their technology and strange worship of beings called "Ethereals" remain, ready for the taking. Orks still exist, but there hasn't been a right propa' WAAAGH! in millennia, and right now they're just looking for someone big to lead them and something bigger to krump. They're more "Tengu Toppen Gurren Lagann" now. "Believe in you 'coz I'z believin' in ya, ya git! Now go krump sommin'!"
The Eldar and Dark Eldar are gone. Some artifacts of theirs remain - Wraithlords, some strange flyers that seem to have come before the Fall, other automated things. More disturbingly, their mysterious experiments on humans have led to the creation of strange demihumans, mutants and aberrations that range from the beautiful to the horrifying. The Necrons are similarly gone, although certain Tomb Worlds still exist, with Necrons that are still in stasis. Some of them are led by Necron Lords, which are still sapient and hunger for mortal life energies. These Necron Lords can take any shape; from swarms of robotic insects to giant Terminator-style monsters, they're going to ruin someone's day.
Chaos still exists. There are roving warbands dedicated to one Chaos God or another, but strangely Daemons are rare if not nonexistent, as if the gods of the Warp have their attention focused elsewhere. Mortal Champions of Chaos and Sorcerers still exist, although they're less Space Marine than their ancestors were. Now they go around the galaxy seeking artifacts of their gods, in an attempt to bring them back or even harness some bit of their divinity.
All of the backstory would point towards some Great War in the past, when the C'tan, the Tyranids, the Ruinous Powers and the Emperor did battle. No one knows what really happened; there aren't even any existing star charts that are up to date, so every sector of the galaxy is effectively isolated from one another. One thing's for certain, though: the galaxy has changed.
You play as a Rogue Trader, vagabond, warlord and explorer who is attempting to make sense of this strange galaxy. Your warbands can include elderkin splicers, tamed Tyranid monstrosities, Space Marine mercenaries, Necron automatons, Chaos Champions or Ork pilgrims who are all seeking fame, glory, fortune, power or simple food. But the galaxy is a big place, and no matter how powerful your allies are, you will not be missed.
