Hey there. I'm currently building a Mechanised Lamenters force, consisting of Razorbacks, Baal Predators and standard Predators. For my HQ choices, I am considering taking either Mephiston (reason: He makes up for my otherwise lack of assaulty units), or two Librarians (reason: They can give a Shield of Sanguinius bubble around my force). I'm still not quite sure which option to take, and would appreciate any feedback on the two options.

Secondly, as I understand it, if I take Mephiston, as he is a separate model, and for some bizzare reason known only unto Games Workshop, not an IC, he cannot join a unit in a Transport. In that case, would he be too vulnerable on his own on foot? He has Wings and I can screen him, but it still makes me feel uneasy about having a high value target out on his own (it also offends my sense of neatness/OCD). How would I go about protecting him?

He would be seriously cheesy if he was an IC. Especially at 1500-1750. Use him in your BA list. He is not hard to hide behind a wall of vehicles. Also you can always let him take some other squad's transport. I've also seen him used in a Raven by himself (seems excessive but a local player does it and really likes it).

It is because he is hideously powerful and would be totally broken if he was an IC. -- The more you know --

Mephiston is a great fit in a mech army. He can steal a ride from someone, or he can simply hide behind the razors. He adds some much needed close combat punch to a mechanized list.

Mephiston can definetly fit, for the reasons mentioned. You still should consider taking a regular Librarian for the Shield power.

Current Record: 5 Wins, 6 Draws, 3 Losses 2000 points

In Progress: 500 points

Mephisto is crazy enough already for his way way low 250 points. Making him an IC would mean there would be no reason to ever take anything else.

He is very easy to hide though, the only thing he really needs to worry about are TH/SS termites and characters that can instankill. I can think of one that can do it before his crazy I7

I've had good success using him in a mech list while hiding him behind a landraider. in the LR i put 10 assault marines and a priest in term armour. Razorbacks will do the same thing but are not reliable once they come under fire. beside most BA players run razor backs with Las cannons and to move them up isnt much use.

Mephiston is an excellent fit for a mechanized BA army.

Think about it this way: he actually provides target saturation for your vehicles. Your enemy needs to devote high strength/low AP shooting to kill him, as he is, for some bizzare reason known only unto Games Workshop, effectively a Monstrous Creature on an infantry base. Every Lascannon/Meltagun dedicated to killing him means fewer are directed toward your tanks. He's also ridiculously easy to hide outside of LoS behind vehicles, or just in whatever Cover is available on the board.

Once it's time to use him, he can easily vault over whatever tank he's behind and assault. Very few armies have the capacity to deal with him in assault, so they'll resort to shooting, and well, see above.

I think he'd make a great addition.

GK units with quicksilver. Vanilla librarians with the Quickening. GKGM with halberd strikes at I7 and more likely than not comes with some kind of fun grenade.

And then there's Draigo...
