6 if Dante is present as he moves them to troop choices.
I don't think you can include 9, as far as i'm aware they can't count as both types of choice on the FO chart in the same army.

I'm pretty sure the wording is "Sanguinary Guard can be taken as troops and elites choices".. though, thinking about it that's probably a different codex and different units .

the sanguinary guard can be taken as troop choices. then that will free up your three elite choices for other things. it is legal. at least with army builder that can happen. i have run a 1500 point with two sanguinary guard, furrioso dread, and a sanguinary priest. so, that would be four elites, but dante moves the two squads into the troop slot., so you have three elite slots open.
