Hello all, looking at the new tau FAQ, I've noticed something that's seems odd to me.

On the second page, it asks if a broadside unit, equipped with advanced stab. system and accompaning marker drones, has the drones stay still, are they able to fire their marker lights?

The ruling is no. This is opposite how we play right now based on two things.. 1. Drones come with jet packs. Jet packs make the user relentless. 2. Advanced stab. System gives slow and purposeful which allows the 'side to move and shoot heavy weapons. We follow the you always move at the slowest rate rule so although the drones can alway move 6", then 6" we just have them instead copy whatever the sides get on their 2d6 roll and that's it.

Does this new FAQ errata that maker drones may not be moved and fired?? What about on regular suits? And I know that this issue has been beaten to death before (jetpacks and tau) but this seems to bring new light to it..

Drones become what the unit is, so if they join firewarriors, they count as infantry. Broadsides are infantry. Broadsides with the stabilization system have the ability to move per the slow and purposeful USR. This ability isn't conferred to the drones.

Besides, everyone knows shield drones are best on broadsides.

As above. While drones bought separately are Jet pack, drones bought for ALL other units are the unit type of the unit that bought them.

+1 to juraigamer and nos

Marker drones attached to broadsides are infantry, not jetpacks.

But the drones for the Devilfish not counting as a kill point if the vehicle dies with them embarked tickles me to death. But we lose the option of them being able to disembark (at least I believe so) if the vehicle dies as the FAQ states that when the vehicle is destroyed with the drones embarked, the drones die along with the vehicle. So if you are playing a Kill Point mission, be sure to disembark the drones if you feel your Devilfish is threatened and you intent to use the drones as a screen.

Ya, it still makes Marker Drones for units other than XV25 Stealth and XV8 Crisis teams kinda weak, unless your playing with static units but I would still just use Pathfinders.

No.. the FAQ states that the other kill point is not granted UNLESS the drones were disembarked prior to the fish exploding. This greatly helps Tau as it doesn't automatically offer a freebie two drone unit for an easy KP unless you decide ahead of time you want it and disembark them at some point while the vehicle is still up and running.

Back to the OP though, as everyone has already pointed out that the drones just take on the unit type as what they are bought with. While their movement is slowed by being in the same unit with something that has slow and purposeful, they do not gain that USR and thus don't have relentless either allowing them to move and shoot heavy weapons like the Broadsides can.
