So I finally committed and bought my Tau battleforce. I assembled everything in the order it was packaged. Devilfish first: awesome. Stealth suits: a little fat but still great. XV8: awesome as to be expected, every weapon option there. Kroot: lots of bits! great, way too many guns though... And then I get to the firewarriors: wheres all my bits? Got some weird looking grenades, a grenade arm, a scanner arm, two pulse carbines, and a helmetless head. Thats it. WTF mate? my space marine sprues were always chock full of bits, different arms, little baggies, knives, even the torsos are different.

What gives?

Haha, yeah, pretty much.

You should have more than a couple of spare weapon though. I believe they give you about 8 or so extra guns...

But yeah, fire warriors lack bits (and the models are already terrible besides).

Yep, the Tau just don't have that many extras. They're fairly old models by this point.

You know what I love? Kroot have grenades on their sprue. And they can't take grenades rules wise.

They also can't take meat-hunks. Or sacks. Or random crap.

Or pirate pistols.

This has nothing to do whatsoever with the battleforce itself, it's just that Fire Warriors don't have that many bits to spare. The contents are exactly the same as they are in the standard trooper boxes.

Make sure you paint the arms and torso before you glue those parts together or you will regret it.

Also I really liked the number of bitz on the kroot. I separated them all out and divided them equally, (Grenade/knife combo bit with leg on one kroot, grenade separate with knife and sack on another and so forth). By the end I had grenades on a bunch, knives and meat on others. It all looked great. Then I started painting them. All those bitz! They needed all kinds of different colours! It took forever!

Then after spending all this time assembling them and painting them, I sell my Tau army off a year later. No one wanted the kroot that I spent all those hours on! I was so made I tore them up and pasted them with greenstuff and warriors of chaos bitz. Now I have 30 Wracks for my Dark Eldar army. Take that kroot!

Also since Firewarrors are very uniform in fluff rarely having trophies etc it makes sense, beside they don't have many options at all gamewise.
Though I play a Farsight enclave so to make them look more battle worn I give them all cloaks made from green stuff and rough up their armor a lot.

the Fire Warriors actually have all the options they can take(even drones)

Space Marines have only a few of the options.

Mostly datedness. Taking a look at the SW sprue then looking at the FW sprues, you find the latter to be a bit lacking, even if all of the options are there.

Space marine kits still have far more options in the box, and have the benefit of cross-range compatibility. If you buy a Devastator squad, you get enough heavy weapons for it and 2 variants for tactical squads thanks to that compatibility. Everything you buy for Space Marines gives bits that can be used for every other model in the range besides vehicles and Terminators. No other race has that other than maybe Guard.

Still, Firewarriors are rare that they get [i]everything[i/] they could ever equip. They just don't get much in the way of useless extras, and the unit itself has very few upgrade options anyway.

Orks do. There are a ton of bits in every pack that can go onto any model you want. Bought the burna/loota pack and want both? Buy some boyz and *bam* you now have enough stuff. Want more Tankbustas, but don't want to buy the same 5 metal models? Take the Rokkit from your boyz, or maybe from your vehicle kit.

Tyranids are that way with some of the more common morphs. Adrenal glands, some of the weapons, etc. Granted, they're missing several key models to begin with...

Tau Firewarriors, fluff wise at least, are very not the kind to individualize their armour, or to collect trophies and whatnot.

However, they don't come with everything that they can equip. the shas'ui can buy a markerlight for 10pts, but it's nowhere on the sprue. you could, and I do, use the scanner arm as a stand in, but it's not an actual Markerlight. additionally, the drones that they come with are only gun drones. they have the option of taking gun, shield or marker drones, but they aren't in the box. rules also give you the option of switching all your rifles for carbines, but you only get enough in the box for half. anyway, just thought i'd point it out.

I know what you mean, but with their current fluff they are all extremely uniform. They don't carry trophies of battle. I make up for this in my army by having deads of other races at the feet of or under the feet of my Crisis suits. that are actually decent at CC.....

I also have a few models just for show that have a few FW with PC, and Tyranid genestealers on their stomachs at the FWs feet, so it looks like they were swarming and died as they were getting to the line.

Tau are supposed to have a very "standardized" and polished look to them, so GW uses that excuse to not give them many bits.

Now for an Ork army, it's a sin to not at least have 10x's as many bits as you do models.

Or it's because when the Tau Fire Warriors were released, they were a kit that had quite a large amount of bits.

The closest kit to the amount of bits they had(in terms of 'full options') was the Eldar Guardian and Space Marine kits.

The 'Tactical' box that we have now is similar to what was out then, but it has more options than that one had.

Even if they don't have a ton of bits, they still have one of the best battleforces. I'm scared to what It will be gimped to with a new release. :(
