Hello,

I have been playing 40k now for about a year, and I rather like the game. Currently I play Blood Angels, but I am feeling like I want to try something new. I tried Guard and really didn't like how they played, very different than my BA, I found I couldn't be as aggressive with them and that more often than not I lacked the CC punch needed. Because I am new and don't know much about the other armies, what is your opinion on the strengths and weaknesses of each army?

What I like about BA is;
Speed
Versatility
Survivable
Favors the aggressor, which is funny because I am not typically a aggressive player, I play very calculating and like to think things through

What I don't like about BA is;
Low model count, always seemed I am out numbered, this can be frustrating in those KP games
Getting kind of tired of modeling marines and the "technical" look.
Special Characters seem like linchpins to me, I would love to be able to use them, but I have found very few that gel with my style.

Now with all that being said, I am NOT looking for the perfect army, just a new army that might gel with my style to offer an alternative to SM's and BA's...any one out there understand what I am saying?

Orks.

SERIOUS agressor.

Survivable in numbers. You lose Orks by the tons, but who cares? They're cheap!

Versatile: there are many units in the codex that bends a standard ork list to many different varieties.

You can have lots of Trukks and Wagons and go Speed Freaks, you can swarm with big squads of boyz and footslog, you can have big dreads or all bikes or even a bit of a gunline (don't try this at a tournament unless you're REALLLY brave. XD)

They are VERY different from Marines. You can even go Snakebite tribe and model them with VERY little metal, even to using beasts as transports or whatever.

The correct question is, would I be enjoying this hobby if I did this?

The correct audience is you.

Yup i was about to say Orks myself. So above poster is spot on!

And a funny sidenote to OP. BA hate's Orks more then anything! Woulden't it be fun to have the two armies pitching against each other with a friend ?

I was leaning toward them to be honest...I just find the whole idea of learning a whole new rule set to be kind of daunting.....The snakebites seem interesting conversion opportunities...and so does the exact opposite as well, tech loving orcs, like a ork version of the SM chapter "Iron Hands"

Ork rules sets are that bad overall, honestly. and like most marine armies, a lot of units have an identical stat line, just different wargear and maybe some extra rules. I would also advise you to look into Orks based on what you've said already. I'm finding it tough myself to find an enjoyable change from Orks while still being a dirty Xenos. My biggest problem - Necron and Tau rules being currently meh.

SPACE WOLVES then, IMO, SW are pretty much the answer to life, the universe, and everything. What condement should I put on my sandwitch? SPACE WOLVES!

I like Orks. There is a lot of variance in the army. Kan Walls, Foot Slogging, Mechanized, Speed Freaks, Shooting, Close Combat oriented. Competitive fun and most of all most polls asking people's preferred opponent is Orks, so it may make you more popular in your local gaming store.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

It's true! When i the first time got down to my FLGS and said that i played Orks everyone was actually thrilled and coulden't wait to play me! Everyone wanted a match with me so it was kinde cool

So Orks would be a good choice. And when you start on Orks i will almost bet on that your BA army will just sit there on the shelf collecting dust! Orks are hella fun
