I want to put all my knights and dreads on the dark arts lava bases but before I place the order for the bases I want to ask a few questions. First I need a list of proper colors for the rocks and lava. A easy step by step on how to do them(I've never tried painting terrain). I want to put a glow effect on their armor from the power weapons should this be done with ice blue? I was thinking of doing a glow effect from the lava as well but i want to make sure this won't clash too much with the power weapon effect and make it look trashy. Any help is much appreciates!

Blue and the orange-red glow generally associated with lava will clash.

Green works well as a contrast though.
This is a photo of some fiery painted GK by an Aussie player.
He has lava bases on them (and the green weapons).


It all depends on what Main colour your army is for complimentary/contrasting colours on weapons though.

My models are currently all boltgun metal, washed with badab black and highlighted with chainmail and again with mithril silver. Their force weapons are drybrushed with a number if blues and finally a bit of skull white. I'll post an image soon.

I may have to choose either do the lava glow or a different scenic base and do the power weapon glow. I really like the lava bases cuz it gives the feel of the knights being in the warp fighting daemons

I found pics in dakkas's gallery that someone did with termies in almost the exact way I was wanting, not the same bases though. They look awesome!

This thread which will take 10-15 minutes to read will tell you how to do beautiful lava bases! Which will look a million times better than ANYTHING "Stelek" could manage.

The base is different from what I was looking at but the idea is pretty much the same
