Simple question:

Does the ork special character Wazdakka Gutsmek count as a Big Mek for the purposes of allowing the Imperial Armor grot tanks to be added to an army? IA rules state that an army must have a Big Mek in order for grot tanks to be added. I'm not trying to wheedle anything else out of this, just want to know if I can take grot tanks in an army led by Wazzy or if I'd need to add a separate Big Mek to do it.

I have inquiries in to both Forge World and the Adepticon folks, but honestly I don't expect either to respond... so I'm hoping this might have been ruled on somewhere officially before and someone could pass the info on.

He is no more of a big mek than Mad Dok Grotznik. Just having Mek's Tools does not make him a big mek.

The text in Wazdakka's entry clearly suggests that he is a mek, not a dok... and his possession of mek tools and lack of an urty syringe and grot orderly reinforces this notion. He may well not qualify as a big mek, it certainly does not state that in his rules, but as a major character and a mek, it seems like a reasonable question.

It's not a totally unreasonable question. But nor do I think that answer was necessary flippant, either. He did give you his rationale.

For rules purposes, Wazdakky is clearly not the "Big Mek" unit, nor does he have a rule stating that he counts as one for the purposes of force org. I suspect that's because he already alters the Force Org for bikes, and GW didn't intend him to do it for Dreads at the same time.

He is a Mek, but not a Big Mek, as his ability allows you to take bikers as troops, not Deff Dredds. (the hallmark ability of a Big Mek)

At least that would be my interpretation. You could houserule him as one, but i don't see him 'officially' being one.

A more poignant answer would be: Wazzdakka is neither a big mek nor a Warboss, he is a Wazzdakka(or as far as his rules go, he is "da Biker boss").

He combines some of the benefits of a Mek, and some of the benefits of a Warboss, and has his own benefits in the final outcome.

Basically he is the 1950's American "Greaser" of Ork Kultur; He is a Handy Mechanic to have around and runs with his biker gang on his suped up chopper; and repairing any vehicles that need to be repaired.

Got it! Working on a couple of different variations of the list now, one wif da Waz & one witout. 'Tanks men. Youz a credit to da Waaagh!

There is fluff of Grotznik building explosives and cybork parts, which is very mek-like imo. That's why I mentioned him.

I appreciate that. Got a couple of different lists I'm experimenting with. So either way I can cover it... just having problems as the plan is for Adepticon next year and the FOC slots are very restrictive... so what would be no problem in a normal list with multiple slots becomes a major issue when you only have one non-troop slot each.
