Posted this at the brewery but no comments so far.

Well I'm back from a break and I thought I would try something new.

Runelord (Anvil of Doom, RoStone, Shield) -323
Dragon Slayer -50
40 Warriors (Great Weapons, Rangers, Full Command) -465
22 Quarrellers (Great Weapons + Musician) -291
29 Miners (FC, Steam Drill) -369

Rangers deploy on the flank of an enemy 12 inches away scouting. Quarrellers deploy as far forward as possible to get some shooting in first round. Runelord with Anvil sit back and Dragon Slayer babysits, buying them a round or 2 of anviling while he ties up any ambushers or fast war machine hunters flying up field. Hopefully I get first turn if not, not so much of a deal. Enemy reforms to face, I march and then Rune of Oath and Honor Charge into them. In this confusion the enemy is going to have to split his forces. Small chance I break his flanking unit I charge, making them flee through his entire line. The back field tie up allows the miners to show up with plenty of targets and hopefully I can use the Anvil to have them charge someone on the turn they show up. What I don't like is a lack of BSB, but come on we're dwarfs if anyone is going to go BSB less it's us.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Is this so bad it doesn't warrant a response? Lol. I like the idea of miners and rangers working together. And miners are not too bad, 1 pt more then a GW warrior and the same stats, thought with the steam drill they do get expensive.

I think it's interesting, but would be worried that an IF initiative spell would wreck your big block and you would be done.

I think I would drop the anvil ( ), dragon slayer, 2 quarrelers and their GWs, and 9 miners for a tough thane with brotherhood and maybe a gyrocopter. I have no idea how many points you would have left over, if any, but you could start chipping away at the 40 man unit of rangers to squeeze in something else, not sure what though.

I've got a dwarf army in the mix that is ambush themed.
I'm planning on bugman, so I can double down on rangers.

I'm also going with a rune of Brotherhood and Challenge; which is an absolutely brutal combination. It basically lets you deploy in the exact perfect location, and force an enemy to flee, or fail a charge if he can't roll box cars.
Just set up at the maximum charge range, and make a unit charge at you.
He'll have to wheel at you, and he'll most likely fail, possibly putting his whole battle line in disarray.

I utterly wrecked ogres with this, forcing a block of 8 on the outside, to wheel and cross the center unit, stopping the whole army for a turn.

Definitely goes in the category of armies that will almost auto-win in some cases and auto-lose in others. If there's something that you don't want to fight and *need* to shoot (hell pit, hydra, chunky block of khorne warriors) you don't have any way to deal with them other than slow them and hope the crossbows do the trick.

I'll admit my thinking is skewed since I'm not used to 1500 points, but still, I think you'll have some dire matchups...

Thanks for the info all so ditch the anvil, add Bugman causing 2 rangers on enemy flanks and then 1 group of miners that shows up and charges the following turn.

Bugman - 155
Thane (MRoChallenge, RoBrotherhood, GW,MRoGromil) - 139
35 Warriors (Great Weapons, Longbeards, Rangers, FC) - 515
35 Warriors (Great Weapons, Rangers, Full Command) - 410
21 Miners (FC, Steam Drill) - 281
1500

I would like to see your opponent's face when you say you don't have anything to deploy at the start. However, once I realized that, I would be castling up in a corner. Granted you would still have big blocks that will be in cc by turn 2, but I might eliminate some of the flank charges.

Yeah that would be awesome, "deployment time", I just stare at him and then ask "you ready for scout deployment yet?"
