Title says it all. "Best" being defined as most well rounded. So take into account cost, armor, capacity, speed, options, offensive output, and synergy with the rest of the army. I left out infantry fighting vehicles such as the razor back or the looted wagon because they are more of a tactics choice and are less comparable. If I forgot any let me know.

Chimera, cheap, excellent heavy weapons, a mass of fire points, and well armored on the front, ideal for presenting a wall of AV12 for the poor infantry to hide behind.(or in)

Well, you're missing a bunch of options.

I would have voted for the Battlewagon.

That, as far as I'm concerned, falls under the category of main battle tank. It happens to have a transport capacity, however that is secondary to its tank roll.

The Monolith, by only a slight stretch, is a transport and is pretty good, ignoring the rest of the army. Also, while the Battlewagon is a tank, it can be taken as a dedicated transport for nobz and is a great deal for the power it has going for it

You know what, I should have changed this to "troop transport" or "dedicated transport". Because while the battlewagon and the land raider are both transports, and can be taken as dedicated transports, they are more tank like than other transports, and are designed to carry elite troops, not rank and file troops.

Wave Serpent. Anything that survives 7 Turns with 2 Twin-Linked railguns and 2 Hammerhead railguns pounding on it and doesn't suffer a single damage result is good.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

It's not immune to anything, even without the double-pen meltaguns still aren't a terrible weapon against them for instance. It just has *mitigation*.

That said, best dedicated transport? Chimera (who would have thought that three years ago ? ). Cheap, two heavy weapons with the possibility of a third and even a fourth (stubber and HK), 5 firing points, AV12, and can carry 12 dudes. Very cool and very useful, though also not quite as wtf broken as some make it out to be.

I voted Chimera. Sure, there are much more powerfull transports in the game, but non of them is as cost efficient as the Chimera. I mean, 55 points for what is essentialy a light tank
with firepoints?

I can't believe the Devilfish has votes. The only good points it has are decent armor for a transport, and the 12" cover save bubble, which can be easily avoided. It's lack of offensive power really hurts it when compared to other Xeno tanks and the Chimera.

Wave Serpent for me based on its options, "synergy" and offensive/defensive abilities.

Although I do agree leaving out the LR/Mono/BW etc kind of skews the poll a little.

The Valkyrie should be there, it's even a dedicated transport for drop troops (yes for the standard rank and file like regular infantry squads) unlike the Vendetta which is a gunship.

What about all of the other tranports outside of heavy tanks? Razorback, venoms, drop pods, looted vehichles, even valks and storm ravens.

I suspect razorbacks would be ranked up there with chimeras if you had bothered putting them on the list.

Just read the entire first post. How are razorbacks and looted wagons a tactics choice, and not a transport. If i can transport my entire army in razorbacks they count as a tactic and not a transport, while rhino's count as a transport and not a tactic? IMO this poll is even more flawed then most dakka polls.

I went ahead and voted for Wave Serpent, it is durable and it is quick since it is a skimmer, which means its very good at transporting troops where they are needed. It may not be as offensive as a Chimera, but it is usually faster, which is more important when it comes to Transports IMO.

Wave Serpent. It's a fast skimmer with decent armour values, energy field, enough room for a large squad of aspect warriors and you can put some decent guns on it.

Can't take holofields.

Can't assault out of it.

One, tiny access point.

No fire points.

Easy to kill.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

I voted Chimera. Even if you did toss the Valkyrie in I would still choose the Chimera because it's a mobile command vehicle, and amphibious. How often does amphibious come into play? Almost never unless you plan on running a beach assault, or an industrial waste pit clash. However, the first time someone puts down some water features thinking they are going to restrict your tracked movement and you boat across it because they forgot chimera's were amphibs is priceless.

Im voting Rhino purely because I love the model and the unit ingame!

Its the ultimate irritant with its storm bolter, cheap points wise and has the ability to repair.

Ontop of that have them zoom around obstructing LOS, tank shocking and generally being a pest (Especially if the opponent forgets its empty) AND if they do kill it, 35 points lost, oh well!

Whats more is everytime I take them they seem nigh on unkillable, surviving firepower by some miracle that would take out a landraider

Chimera. Its just...perfect. Well, I'd love for there to be an Autocannon turret option for +5 or +10 points. That would just be mean though.

Forgeworld does Autocannon turrets, and if you have the old IA they are in that. They are also in the IA update. Need your opponents permission though. I bring both turrets and if someone has a problem just swap it to the Multi-laser and add the correct number of magnitized HK missiles to make up for the point difference. HK missiles, just another reason why the Chimera can make a makeshift light tank.

I voted Wave Serpent. Mostly for the slight durability they have thanks to the shields and their mobility (I never forget to add at least star engines). Though their main downfall are their cost and the fun of when they get into assault.

They'll go down like normal transports, yet the access point is so small it's not too difficult for the occupants to be trapped within it when it's wrecked causing you to lose a unit. If something manages to get into assault with one, I want it to explode so I at least keep most of the unit inside.

For their points though I'd say maybe the Valkyrie or Battlewagon.

I agree with dash, you're missing some options.

Specifically, you're missing the best one: the storm raven.

It's a skimmer, so it ignores terrain. It's fast, so it goes much faster, and gets SMF, and, unless I'm mistaken, it can also deepstrike, or outflank, can't it?

Other transports can do this, sure, but then you add on its other features, like its ability to volley-fire blood talon missiles and plasma cannons, and its immunity to melta, and the fact that it has an ASSAULT RAMP.

Oh, but that's not all, you also have to remember what it can carry. While a chimera is sporting some vets, or a wave serpent poops out a few fire dragons, the storm raven can deliver death company and grey knight madness straight into assault.

Oh, and it can also transport a dreadnought. A dread with fleet or psychic powers to boot. 'nough said.
