I've been into modelling for about 3 years now, but have only recently gotten into using washes. I need some help thought for washes for my Arctic army, I tried both brown and black, but both made the models look grubby, and didn't bring out the detail/shadow the way they do on a none Arctic colour scheme. The actual paints I use are: Space Wolves Grey, Codex Grey and skull white. The black wash works fine on the Codex Grey, but the Space Wolves Grey (comes out pale-bluish) and white don't benefit from this wash. What colour washes would people suggest, or how should I got about mixing my own washes?
Thanks,
Raith

Right because a game in which hobbits with sniper rifles, Geiger's aliens,Romanesque super soliders and WWI-WWII tanks fight Anime ripp-offs and "orcs" with guns this is a stretch...

Have you looked into blue washes? I'm far from an expert painter, but I seem to remember someone mentioning that for snow effects.

“Who is to judge what is right and what is wrong? Great and powerful foes surround us; unknown miscreants gnaw at us from within. We are threatened with total annihilation. In days such as these we can afford no luxury of morality.”

I've used watered-down Shadow Grey on my White Scars and it works pretty well. The blue wash looks a bit too harsh, in my opinion.

Thin blue works well. Just make sure it's a weak one, because Blue Wash by GW is pretty pigmented.

I myself have an urbancamo-arctic theme to my Tau army, I haven't found washes to be overly effective on the Tau as they are, in my opinion portrayed to have a crisp/clean look to their force with the obvious exception of the kroot. With the skull white as the base colour i have found using fortress grey in the recesses in between the panels to give a much smoother flow of colour. Along with this i use a 50/50 mix of codex grey and chaos black to colour the vents, engines, legs (battlesuits), etc. with a dry-brush of codex grey to give it a little more distinction.

If you end up spraying your models in Skull white then you can also use the tub skull white as a highlight on the raised sections as its a slightly brighter shade.

Alternatively if you really want to use a wash then I suggest a very pale grey, just pale enough to notice the difference against the white. [This is all assuming with your arctic theme you are using white as the main colour]

Hope this helps...

Finland... the country next to Sweden? No! That's Norway! Finland is to the east! No! That's Russia!

Mix Asurmen Blue and Badab Black, That's what I did with my Space Wolves and it worked out pretty well.

Sweet Jesus, Nurgle and Slaanesh in the same box!?
No, just Nurgle and Slaanesh, Jesus will be sold seperately in a blister.
