Has anyone tried a Daemon army based around a core of cavalry/beast units? Lets give it a try.

Has anyone tried this or something similar? I think it has potential, but what do you think?

I don't know if you know who stelek is, but here is some of his thoughts on it:

http://yesthetruthhurts.com/2009/07/competitive-demons/

If you can place them well, then daemons do have some of the most point efficient cavalry in the game. It is really fun to play, dropping everywhere and actually getting to charge in the next turn almost no matter what.

But I really don't think that soul grinders are going to be the way to go. Every one of your opponents AT weapons will be pointed at them, and I highly doubt they will last past that first drop. I would take a look at heralds of tzeentch on chariots or tzeentchian daemon princes for some fire support.

Hey Extrenm54,

Nice idea and yeah I think it works like a charm. I've been moving in that direction with Daemons myself. Last year I used a list with only 1 unit of Fiends. I added a unit of Flesh Hounds a few months back and just recently also added a unit of Seekers. Still lighter on the Beasts/Cavalry, butI do subscribe to the idea that fastmoving units is very important to a Daemons list and makes for a less vulnerable army.

As for your list, I'd try to combine this list with Yermoms MSU approach. I'd ditch the Plaguebearers and take different stuff instead. Since you're going for 6 troopschoices I rate Plaguebearers the lowest. They're golden when you want to get away with the minimum of troops in your army, but they lack killingpower to warrant spamming them IMO.

My variant would look like this (just for comparison and maybe some inspiration)

70 Herald of Slaanesh, Chariot, Gaze
100 Herald of Tzeentch, Chariot, Bolt, MoS
100 Herald of Tzeentch, Chariot, Bolt, MoS

180 6 fiends
180 6 fiends
180 6 fiends

100 5 Horrors, Bolt, Changeling
96 6 Bloodletters
96 6 Bloodletters
84 6 Daemonettes

120 8 flesh hounds
120 8 flesh hounds
102 6 Seekers of Slaanesh

160 Soul Grinder, Tongue
160 Soul Grinder, Tongue

1848

I like the Grinders in this list, but I agree with the synergy of the Tzeentch Chariot with this one... I'm still a bit unsure about troops. I'd maybe try to wiggle in 5 squads of Bloodletters (5 strong) and Daemonettes (6 strong)

Anyway, good luck with the list!

Your list lacks... punch. I'd recommend getting heralds of Tzeentch on chariots for a start

u would need the plague bearers to hide behind when you deep strike so keep them , otherwise ur just going to be blown away. Blue Scribes are a good idea as a more powerful version of a Tzeentch herald on disk.

I think...

Change the Herald into a Tzeench one, on a chariot ,with Bolt

Drop 3 units of PB's.Replace with either Deamonettes or Bloodletters (or a mixture)-you choose

Consider using Karanak Hound of Vengence with 1 unit of Hounds (although there is some debate as to whether he changes the unit into Elites or not..)

Apart from that, good job..Happy days!!
