This fluff won't make a TON of sense at first, but here goes: (this is the second draft)

The Logicians chapter are a recent founding chapter using Iron Hands geneseed. There are rumors that the Adeptus Mechanicus had more of a role in their founding than in other foundings, but both the Chapter Hierarchy and Lords of Terra are silent on the matter. It is, however, undeniable that the chapter possesses close ties to the Adeptus Mechanicus, and is often seen using arcane or rare equipment on the field of battle.

The chapter are somewhat unorthodox in their beliefs, following a concept they call "Logos" and believing the Emperor's light as a physical manifestation of Empirical Truth.

Somewhat unlike the Iron Hands, the Logicians prefer to destroy the enemies of the Machine God and the Emperor up close, where the enemy may see the stark icons and hear the glorious mantra of battle. The hope is that they will repent, and commit themselves to the care of the Logicians so that they may serve the chapter as servitor-drones.

This close-combat nature of the infantry forces requires extra skill on the part of the machines of the chapter, something which they are well-suited to perform. The heavy support provided to the chapter includes Land Raider transports and Predator battletanks.

Being a relatively new chapter, the Logicians have few dreadnoughts, although one Techmarine was recently interred in a Dreadnought sarcophagus for his valiant fight to save the Predator Divinity of Sollex from a marauding horde of Khorne Berzerkers.

The chapter is unique in that they possess a large number of Techmarines, sufficient to allow them to equip each Engagement Force with at least two assistants and one Tech-Father. The chapter does not, however, permit psykers within its ranks. The stuff of the warp are anathema to the Machine, and Logos does not brook the existence of Ethos (or Chaos).

The chapter deviates from the Codex, possessing the organization as follows:

Tech-Father Lucifer Arcturus, leader of the Chapter and possessor of the Staff of Illuminating Reason.
Alpha Detachment Commander Logos Atrophos, Guardian of the Iron Vault and Lord of the Armory
Beta Detachment Commander Nous Asclepius, Forge-Master
Gamma Detachment Commander Alethia Caesar, Tech-Warden and Savior of Manthus

Each detachment, like the Iron Hands clan companies, are responsible for their own resources, although they may share and trade as required. They are of varying size, although, because of severe casualties at the hands of the World Eaters, the Logicians have not yet met the 1,000 Marine requirement and thus new detachments will be reformed in the future as the ranks swell.

Notable Battles:
Liberation of Manthus: A Tyranid invasion was occuring on the world of Manthus, but the Gamma Detachment was able to deep-strike upon the Tyranid commander's location, and in heavy fighting were able to terminate him. The resulting disarray in Tyranid ranks permitted the Guard to complete planetary cleansing.

STC Recovery Location Theta: An Adeptus Mechanicus STC fragment recovery operation was set upon by Chaos, but Alpha Detachment was able to hold them off long enough for the Mechanicus to complete their investigations. The recovered STC fragment is now housed within the Iron Vault, and is guarded by Venerable Brother Ascanius, a Dreadnought who suffered his injuries at Recovery Location Theta, as well as other marines of the Alpha Detachment.

Battle-mantras:
"CORPUS FINIS ... MACHINA MAGNA ... OMNISSIAH VULT ... DEATH TO THE ENEMIES OF THE MACHINE-GOD"

"OUR LOGIC IS FLAWLESS. OUR MISSION IS CLEAR. OUR SPIRIT IS LOGOS."

It's not bad, but it definitely needs some finessing.

Also for future reference--not just for you, but everyone:
Fan fiction and the feedback for it (as in your Chapter's history, famous battles, etc) belongs in the "Dakka Fiction" section.

If you're asking a question about "Would X do Y" for your Fiction--it belongs here.

Sorry, thanks for the fix.

What sort of finessing? just streamlining?

The biggest thing that strikes me is that "they're a new Founding Chapter"...but they weren't founded with the full 1000 Marines?

They'd start with the 1000 Marines, but a better way is to have them losing a large amount at some valorous battle/treacherous action.

Oh, I see. I suppose I can edit it in, thanks. I never thought of that.

It's also worth noting that even the Iron Hands retain Librarians.

The only Chapter that I can think of which really doesn't have Librarians is the Black Templars.

I know. I, personally, don't like them though and feel that Techmarines, as Mechanicus Adepts as well as Marines, have equal access to knowledge (or should). And psykers can naff off... personal choice.

Was just making certain you knew that.
There's very little on the Iron Hands, but that's one of the things I recall.

If you want information on how a Successor of theirs might be organized though--look into the "Sons of Medusa". They just got a huge fluff reveal courtesy of the Badab War books from Imperial Armour.

As a side note, logicians are a heretek faction of the adeptus mechanicus. They are effectively a progressive cult within the Machine Cult, who want to advance society's technological level and level of comfort, and ultimately, bring humanity back into the Dark Age of Technology (which is more of a golden age really).

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

That's alarmist to a Sister of Battle I'm sure, but it's not entirely unfitting.

If the shoe fits, wear it, as they say.

I think she was meaning more that "Logicians exist already".

Yes.

I'm saying the name's already taken by a canon source. And a canon group that is utterly heretical and is considered a group to be hunted down and killed to the man.

Alright, I see your point. I am at a loss for another name right now, though.

Also, in something as large as a galaxy, can no two things ever be named the same? AFAIK the Logicians are only in two sectors.

But if I can find another good name I can change it.

The fluff is nice, I would expand on some of it though.

For example, how exactly do they fight in close-comabt? Tacs with chainswords? Assault Marines? I had assumed there was an excess of Dreds, until I read further.

They make heavy use of Assault Tanks with Techmarines and power-armored tactical marines.

Basically I am using the Black Templars codex with as many techmarines as can be grabbed, Predators with Power of the Machine Spirit, and at least one Land Raider, then fill up with tac-marines. Emperor's Champion is HQ choice, only because of mandatory-ness.

And I am still thinking of a name.

Not bad, I like it. But I would change the under 1000 marines due to a tragic loss of life as stated above by Kan. but still, good work man! Lets see some chapter master info and company/clan? breakdown.

Also, I wouldnt use the Black Templar codex, as you can have forge fathers with the regular codex and still make a decent CC army.

The Logicians (I'm going to keep calling them that until I find another name) do not possess a "Chapter Master" as such. Instead, the leader of the Clan Council (also the leader of Alpha Detachment) is in the acting role. So in this case, it would be Lucifer Arcturus.

Tech-Father Arcturus was a volunteer Iron Father from the Iron Hands who took up the mantle and major responsibility of founding a new chapter. He brought with him a core of his best warriors, and together they form the Alpha Detachment, the only detachment to be able to field multiple squads of veteran space marines and terminators.

The organization is Alpha through Lambda detachments. Each detachment is responsible for its own equipment, although training is centralized. Each Detachment sends one member (usually the most prestigious) to enter the Chapter Council, the governing body of the chapter led by the commander of Alpha Detachment.

As far as codex choice is concerned: I have often considered using other codeces, but the Black Templar one has a few MAJOR arguments in favor of it which outweigh the drawbacks.4
1) Two-wound techmarines.
2) Ld. 9 Techmarines
3) Techmarines with Signums, Auspexes, and Power Weapons standard
4) Techmarines with access to the armory for things like Storm Shields or terminator armor or jump packs; allows for some character.
5) Predators with Power of the Machine Spirit... high-technology (almost mechanicus like) versions of regular marine tanks.
6) Blessed Hull on Land Raiders <-- fluffy
7) Chaplains with servitor retinues who can still join units.
