Alright, Ive been painting up some MK III armor to look like pre heresy night lords.. Ive gotten my test model done and now Im stumped. On the left shoulder I have the legion symbol, and on the right shoulder I have XIII for the legion number but I dont know how to mark them in a certain company or certain squad.. did they even do that back in those days? Ive got the visions of Heresy book and Ive looked at all the night lords pictures (not that many) and non of them are marked..

Need any help/ideas/ examples you guys can come up with cause I really really wanna do these well.

Well if it shows no markings in the book then people would say 'no markings', however I say go with your gut instincts and it will probably look great

Space Wolves: 10 Grey Hunters, 5 Terminators, 1 Wolf Priest
Dark Eldar: 10 Wyches, 1 Succubus
Skaven: IoB, 3 Extra Rat Ogres, 1 Grey Seer, 1 Warlord
High Elves: IoB

If there are no visible markings then simple Roman numerals would probably be the best way to go.

But where do I put them.. On the left shoulder is the symbol, on the right is the legion number... Where would I place a company marking or a squad marking..

On the kneepad(s). Historically, that's where they are.

Yeah knee pad for sqd markings helmet stripes for officers and left ARM for nco marines .
They also used campaign badges on the right knee .
Bit every legion was slightly different.
