I have been reading through the amazing Horus Heresy novels and after I finished Fulgrim (Probably my favourite so far), I was a bit confused.

Spoiler warning (dunno how to hide it)

Spoiler

In Fulgrim, when Fulgrim fights Ferrus Manus it says how he cuts his head off with the Daemon blade. When I looked in Collected Visions It makes out that Ferrus is seriously injured and still alive. Have I misread this and it refers to when they fight when Fulgrim tells of his plans to join Horus before Isstvan or have the Horus books got it right and Fulgrim did kill off Ferrus at Isstvan?

You are Kind of right.

They fight twice.

Spoilers aplenty below:

The First time was when Fulgrim informs Ferrus that he plans to join Horus. Fulgrim bests ferrus but cannot kill his most beloved brother, he walks away(the Sword Ferrus made for Fulgrim gets broken).

The Second time is at the Istvaan massacre; this is when the Daemon Sword that Fulgrim is using manages to make him behead Ferrus. Fulgrim then lets go to the daemon weapon and gets possessed by it(it is actually more the daemon than Fulgrim that presents Ferrus' head to Horus).

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

Quite a few events from the original background dont quite tie up with what was known before or collected visions etc. (for example im sure there is a picture of Tarik Torgaddon as a traitor in collected visions somewhere).

The fluff is bound to change over time as we get more depth available from the novels and new dexes etc. I think most of it can be explained away as follows:

I look at Codex fluff as being written from a 41st millenia standpoint kinda like a history book. We can read about events in the Ancient world but as huge ammounts of information have been lost and no one who was around then is alive to tell us about it we dont know exactly how right we got it.

The Heresy books while being written "at the time" are personal viewpoints of people involved and alot of it is all about perspective so not to be taken as "this happened exactly like this, period"

Thats how my brain explains away little discrepancies anyway

I actually really like that view point Trog, of how codex, and black library books contribute to the fluff of the universe.

Oh stop complaining, its for the greater good... Now get in the box!
