2nd edition, I got the Ork army out of the starter box while my brother got the Space marines.

Never did much with them though. The first army I truly started was 2nd edition Tyranids. But they were so expensive for a kid still in school, so I had a Carnifex, Hive Tyrant, Lictor and the rest of my stuff was plastic Genestealers.

Didn't start an army properly until 3rd edition when I grabbed codex Armageddon and loved the Salamanders.

My own first and current main army was/is the Black Templars though, so I went with that one.

Ultramarines for me. I was immediately taken by them in 2nd Ed. I played a few games of RT with Orks thou, so I guess my absolute first 'Army' would have been da greenskins!

Still got the RT book and all the 2nd Ed one's actually.... Might dig them out for a game this weekend!
If I can find someone to play a laborious game of RT with that is!

My first army was my every trusty and oft-beaten and overrun Iron Warriors. I remember, however, one glorious moment where my Dreadnought put to rest my opponent's taunts about his "uselessness" by destroying 3 of his damn Falcon tanks in a game.
Good ol' Reliable George. I must paint out the scratches he's suffered over the years.

I started with Marines, but only played one game with my old Ultras. I then played Dark Angels for a while.

Squats. They were my first army in any wargame. I still have all the models and love the army.

But I also played Space Wolves at the same time.

My first army is my beloved Imperial Fists. Not as well painted as my Dark Eldar or Grey Knights, nor as good point for point, but they have seen more for close to 200 games and I appreciate the memories they brought.

My second (and truly competitive) army is my Dark Eldar. They have brought me so many victories by blade and rifle, it is not even funny.

Loved (and still own) the old Ghazgull model along with the adorable Makari as well as having Snotling bases to shoot through the Shokk Attack Gun!

Plus whacking my brothers Avatar with Zodgrod's Runtherd Grabba-Stikk and rolling a 4+.

My first army was a Rogue Trader and retinue (basicly an Inquisitorial strike force) back in Rogue Trader.
It morphed into a Blood Angel army in 2nd ed, and then became a Catachan army in 3rd.

I started Tyranids as soon as they were released for 3rd ed. Haven't played a nid army in about 8 years but will always have a soft spot for them. First thing I ever painted was a 2nd ed termagant about 2 years before I got into the hobby properly.

The first army i started with or at least collecting was Tyranids during the 3rd edition. With Tau being my second when they came out. I also have some older metal GK that i played with for a bit when they came out.

Though right now I'm working on my Fox Marines SW army, and hopefully SoB when they come out.

First army I collected was Wolves. Oh the joys of buying from Virgin Megastore in '94 with exactly zero disposable income.
