Alright, I've come to an impasse about what to do for my GK army.
Basically there are already too many Grey Knight players in my area, but I have had a terminator centric moderately competitive army in mind for a while now. I don't want to add to the sea of mithril silver. I have two ideas:
1. Lamenters
This idea makes less sense fluffwise. I had a full terminator first company Lamenters army, almost fully painted, nearing completion, until Codex BA 5e came out. Matt Ward at this point decided that not only did the Lamenters lose their defining characteristic of no black rage, but they also had relatively little terminator armor.
pros:
army is almost all painted
I like the lamenters backstory and iconography
yellow!
cons:
many rules would need fluff-justification
2. Relictors
The idea makes more sense fluffwise. Anything the GK can do for the Imperium with Emprah-power, the Relictors can do with Chaos-power. They both deal closely with warp power and sorcery.
pros:
makes more sense fluffwise
decent colors and iconography
cons:
repainting an entire army
What do?

Whatever looks better.
Fluff can always be bent, folded, spindled or mutilated. People tend to be more forgiving if your army looks sexy.
They get even more forgiving if you've put in the work to be WYSIWYG and the army doesn't look like it gets played as five different codices depending on the flavor of the month.

I'm fielding mine as Exorcists (the only GK successor chapter) since I hate the grey/metallic scheme.

The GKs have no successor chapter, just to let you know. The Exorcists were part of the Cursed Founding and while close allies of the Inquisition and one of the only forces who was actively working with Grey Knights with no mind wipes; they are not however, GK 2nd founding successor.
If you read the book Imperial Armour 10: The Badab War II, it has some additional information with about 10 pages on them, colorings & a special character with a Daemonhammer that beats down people, ecspecially Daemons!
You could definitely do an Exorcists chapter with the Grey Knight rules, but the entire army is not psykers etc... It would still be a cool idea though!

Personally, I would go with the Lamenters idea, and follow your original idea through. I think that many people aren't aware of the fluff changes in the latest codex - I mean I own the thing, and wasn't aware that the Black Rage had been written back into their background (which I think is a great shame, and basically underwhelms the entire central concept of the Chapter - that they were a cursed founding chapter, with their 'flaw' removed).
After the mauling they received at the hands of the Nids, it makes sense that they would have a good stock of the armour ideally suited to assaulting their ships - i.e. Terminator armour. Again a fluff change in the new book that not so much ignores the old material as bulldozes it.
So, what I am trying to say is, 'feth the system', go with your original idea
Aside from on a personal note I think the Legion have a great colour scheme, and name even!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I was somehow expecting the fluff/model disconnect to be more of a problem for people.
I think I'll have each squad be lead by a librarian as Justicar, to represent the psychic powers. Psybolts still won't make much sense, but eh... Psyker dreadnoughts?

Already have a dedicated DW player in the gaming group. The idea of an army of only hammernators with cyclones makes me nauseous. Competitive, but probably the most boring army in existence.

Aren't there other options you could take though?
Lamenters firing psybolts everywhere doesn't really fit with their background, and you may end up with a confusing army that straddles two different army concepts but doesn't really fit either of them.
The other option (depending on course of your gaming group or if you play a lot of tournaments) would be to just choose not to make use of the red thirst rule when using the army - the current rule is a real benefit rather than a disadvantage, I can't see anyone objecting to your marines just having the normal SM special rules.

True, it is confusing unless I stick a librarian in every squad or something.
The core of the matter here is that having messed around with Loganwings for my army (I own the SW codex), I am dissatisfied with the playstyle that I've been dealing with. Basically, when I set out to make an army I try to do so without compromising a theme of units I do and don't like, and all the essential competitive units for marines so far have been units that I do not enjoy fielding.
