So I finally got around to building a Stormraven but I just couldn't stand the look of the servitor turret and the air-intake. It just made the whole thing too tall and stretched out so I decided to forego the turret and instead use Leman Russ Demolisher weapons to make a dorsal weapon much like the Thunderhawk. The Executioner Plasma Cannon is the TL Plasma Cannon option while the Punisher Cannon will be the TL Assault Cannon.

It has only just been glued so it is pretty rough but you can get the idea. I'm going to be using green stuff and lots of sand paper to smooth everything on the dorsal battery down and to make it look flush. I'm also considering adding a Machine Spirit from a Land Raider kit to add some detail to the top of the battery. I will also be adding servo-arms from the Forge World Sky Talon as a beefier representation of the Stormraven's dread-carrying capability. Any thoughts?

Cool idea !
You could fill up the gap between the "tail bone" and the air duct with some plasticard, might make it loot a bit more aerodynamic-ish

Hm, I've been considering that but the small vent on the back of the air-intake piece seems almost appropriate for the Plasma Cannon. I'll cut some pieces and see how it looks, thanks for the suggestion.

Cool idea. I think it would look better though if you extended the 'spine' of the vehicle all the way forward. It just doesn't look quite right with that large weapon coming out of such a small housing.

Nice idea, well executed. I've seen a few different Dorsal turret variants but I thik this is the most interesting. The only downside I guess is that you can no longer take advantage of the fire arc of the turret moount, but then again I guess you usually want to point the nose of the vehicle at the target anyway to maximise damage output

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Do you mean further house the Plasma Cannon? I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "spine."

I hadn't really thought about the firing arc issue as I play casually with a group of friends and we play converted models as if they were stock for the sakes of TLOS and firing arcs. It is a good point though for those who play in more strict environments.

Hmmm, I'm not sure. Even though it looks better than the stock model it appears to exacerbate the whole "Thunderhawk caught in a car crusher" look. Maybe if we could get some pics from the side it would put my mind at ease a little.

Ok what I mean is that the structure of the air vent that you have the barrel stuck in now, seems way to small for a weapon that large. I am saying you should extend that structure all the way forward to the pilot's canopy then stick the barrel on. I think it would look more proportional like that.

The rarefied atmosphere

good work. Reminds me of the thunderhawk's large cannon.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.
