I am starting a IG army with an all Catachan theme but really don't fell that the storm troopers models look the roll so I am thinking about some plastic options. O idea I has was using my Vox backpacks and some wires to make the hot shot lasguns but I just can't get around them wearing armor. Lets see what the good people at Dakka Dakka have came up with.

Your idea sounds good. Just Get a catachan and cadian kit. Use the chest of the cadians and then catachan bits for the rest. And the voxes with wiring sounds great.

if you dont like wiring but want something to stand out, why not use the SM scout box set with your spare catachan kits, if you really want to go for it grab the snipers and use the cloaks "tanith style", and use the sniper rifles but cut the barral length for your hot shot lasguns, your spare vox pack idea is very good aswell, just a couple of thoughts for you

DIE already so I can bring you back to life with my necromancer and beat your mates up!

I will think about that, but Von Humps idea sounds better to me.

for my Catachan Stormies, i went a different Route. Navy SEALs. just use regular jungle fighters, but stick on backpacks/vox casters, use green stuff to make boonie hats, and cut binoculars from HWT sprues to make ACOG scopes for their guns. To add some more flavor, i even cut down a missile launcher to make an AT4 Heat Launcher =p my favorite models by far

So you told the SD boy to stay classy. I'm sure he's NEVER heard that one....

Here's a few pics of some Catachan special forces type troops I've converted that might work as stormtroopers (Might give you a few ideas)

This guy did get his leg completed and a ghillie suit

A latest conversion... (hotshot lasgun is just a cut down sniper rifle)

And an Ogryn...

Hope this helps

Those are really cool! My main problem is trying to make them look like they should have a 4+ armor save and still have the jungle fighter style.

Where are the gas/respirator masks from? Are they Forgeworld?

As far as the carapace armor is concerned, I didn't care

Cadian command box. You get 5 in there.

If you're familiar with the more recent IG armor kits, you'll notice a lot come with loose shoulder pads. You could try using these to justify 4+ armor.

I'd keep the bare arms and heads (just for the look), but boost the body armour - some kind of shoulder pads, and armoured torsoes. The back will be covered by a pack, the front's the only hard bit. Scout torsoes (and maybe legs too) would be the simplest option if you can afford it.

I think Von Humps had the best option so far just kitbash some cadians (the command squad box has the best options - but obviously come out more expensive) and the catachan command squad (the regular catachan arms are too chunky).

Scouts are in carapace (so a perfect fit), but they are slightly larger, so it can seem out of scale, especially with the humpback they have. You could trim the humpback for a suitable backpack (the catachan command has suitable ones) and use obviously catachan heads (otherwise they'll look too much like marine scouts).

Brother SRM is right (cadian command box) - I just trimmed off the pipe to make the head more flexible.

How about using some necromunda goliaths ?

The necromunda goliaths are certainly worth looking for, they do have the Catachan muscular bodies. But some of them are relatively crudely moulded and detailed by modern standards, so they'd require extra detailing. if you can find the plastic sprue somewhere, it could make a good conversion base.

Not a big fan of the necromunda goliaths. I think I will stick with my first idea of mixing some Cadian and Catachan boxes.
