Hey guys so ive been out of the hobby for about 5 years as i headed off to uni and Found girls, alcohol and alot of football in abundance but now im back home ive dug out my old 40K stuff and started up a guard army i started about 6 years ago.

I Painted a small force of guys using catachan models and i converted a few to have missile luanchers etc and i had a company commander sorted out as well. but only a small force maybe justu nder platoon strength and no vehicles. Ive been building them back up and painting ALOT of models and i now have 1500 points 90% painted and ready. i Just need to repaint a few vehicles i got from Ebay as they dont fit in with my colour scheme.

Anyways i will start off by posting some pics of the first lot of Guardsmen i did about 6 years ago to show the comparison in the new guys and the old guys and take it from there!

Welcome back to the fold Wargaming>Football any day

Looks like a solid start. If you care enough, I would recommend going back over some of the details and tidying up some of the interfaces between colours. The reds in particular wash into the other colours a bit too much. Is there a theme or are you just putting together a generic mixed Guard force?

Well i was just trying to get everything painted to a decent standard and get all my units based the same way with a good solid colour scheme all looking nice and neat on the table top. ive nearly finished the army now 1500 points worth anyway.

Im just going for a mix of Cadians and catachans in a generic guard force yeah, ill get a couple of big group shots on the go as today i varnished my infantry and they are all finished.

From a distance i think they look quite impressive. i agree that from up close they arent the best painted models in the world but im going for the uniformed look as i hate playing with unpainted models!

not sure where to go with it next, i have a hyrda flak tank to paint though!

Ok well i managed to get round to taking some pics of all my amassed infantry 100% painted based and varnished with purity seal. All in all its about 81 models. I still have to paint 1 more infantryman to go into my meltagun vets squad and my 2nd commissar.

I know they arent fantastic up close but as a uniformed whole i think my army is looking rather cool. Ive got it all painted rather quickly and im quite proud of myself! Working part time for the moment defo helps my painting time. Once the army is 100% up and running i can start slowing down and trying some more detailed pieces and improving the paintwork a bit but for now getting them all ready and painted is my priority.

Ok so thats all the stuff i have painted so far, here is what i have on my painting station at the moment.


So time to get cracking with my Chimeras and Mr.Commissar 2. After that its on to do my Demolisher and LRBT and my 1500 points is complete and ready for battle.

Ok well i decided to bit a more work on my tanks, added 2 newly painted Chimeras to the army too. Went back over my Chims and painted in the nuts and bolts and gave them squad colours on the turrets.


And finally a shot of all 4 completed vehicles to far for my Vartak 150th!


Any thoughts welcome i think they look better than they did before after a little more work.

It looks nice. But you you should consider doing some highlighting on the greens, and especially on the squad colors. Maybe paint in an Icon to make it more distinctive.

Yeah thats a good idea i think ill look into doing some extra work on them, just glad i have all the infantry painted as well as most of the tanks looking in a decent standard.

I used dark angels green for my green, not sure on how to highlight them though...

I fancy maybe getting some of the cold weather cadians and doing a bit more of a detailed job on them.

You could always mix some paints, make them lighter. Maybe mix dark angels green with some bleached bone?

yeah nice idea, i tried it with goblin green straight on and it looked awful really so i was a bit hesitant to try anything else but i am up for detailing my minis more definitely.

Its all a learning process for me, now i have my first 1500 points up to play with i can start to expand with a bit more quality.

are you going back to the models you've got already, or will you just spend a bit more time on possible new models? I really think the vehicles need more attention though, they look a bit dull to me.

I like the old metal models, especially the Autocannons. I hope to see more from this, so keep it up.

Cheers for the input guys. Yeah Scarzza i would probs leave what i have already painted as they are all varnished and look very near and tidy all together based up so when i buy more stuff i can spend a bit more time on them.

Toying with the idea of a Stormtrooper squad or another veterans squad to go in a Valk or something along those lines.

@Brotheralexos, thanks for the kind words i will defo keep posting updates as i expand the force. Im quite proud as its the first time ive had a 100% Complete Painted army.

All i need now is to paint -

1x Commissar
2 x Leman russes (Theyre already painted but im repainting them in my current scheme)

Ok guys so a little update, i have a game tommorow night against a space marine army i faced a few weeks ago and drew against. i have 2 leman russes and they were already painted as i got them off ebay and were in good condition but i want all my army to look uniformed and together so i have re sprayed my russes for a re paint. Here they are ready to join the Vartak 150th.


As you can see i have kitted out the Demolisher to be a tank hunting nasty with 2 Multi meltas, i have my Plasma cannons lying around somewhere but i prefer the extra strength of the shot to take against enemy armour.

I still havent painted my Commissar but i think i will try and make him slightly more detailed than the other one after a dew comments on here i think i could put a bit more time into individual models.
