Howdy.

I do not know of any DE painters such as the one for Space marines.

However I have 2 different paint schemes I am considering. I would appreciate your thoughts.
The first is completely different from the standard. On this one I am considering using a helmet in the same color as the armor, or lighter so it has more pop on the table top.

The second is fairly typical dark and mean looking, but I think it also is eye catching.

Thanks much!

Hi! I like them both, alot. But truth be told the first one looks a little too 'Iyandan' for DE. I would, however LOVE a force painted in the second colour scheme. I think it really pops, with the glowing green eyes and the lovely blended shoulder pads.... Hmmm mm, yup, go for the second one dude! Peace....

+1. I think it is a very vibrant and alternate look for DE and will look great on the table.

Thanks.

I guess one of the biggest problems I have is trying to figure out which one will pop more on the table and get the judges attention.

That and I tend to think everyone else's dark Eldar are better than mine.

I plan to lose the dark helmets on the 1st one and have more of tan bone colored helmet so it is a bit more eye catching.

My inspiration for the brown guys is a common wasp and the movie Dune. I really want something utterly alien and sinister at the same time. While dark does not always mean sinister, it does help make them look evil. However, dark Dark Eldar are fairly common and it is almost like marines " Another Black marine army" which is something I want to avoid.
So I did the black one with more traditional highlights and avoided the edge lining commonly used for DE.

I dunno, I may just have to paint up 2 DE armies and then keep the one I like best and then sell the other.

I'm all for the second one to be honest. I think it just works, where as the first one kind of clashes.

You may see it as being more generic, but I think it rocks. It's Also Spawn-esque.

The second one is great, more in line with traditional expectations though.
The first one is painted well and the yellow/dun colour works well, the only criticism i have is there is too much going on with the helmet, the magenta and green seem to clash a bit to me. I think the plan for a bone helm may help with that, I cant wait to see the next tests.
Also the OSL for the eyes is a bit strong for my tastes and toning that down a bit may help, its seems to me that its is part of the colour scheme and not an effect.

I think that ice blue creates too much contrast and kind of screams, "Shoot this part of me!" However, I think the bone colored one looks awesome. It plays off the tones in the armor and still draws adequate focus. It also maintains that sinister look DE are known for.

I agree, I think out of all four attempts shown the one with the bone helmet is the most striking and attractive.

And if everyone else's dark eldar where you live look better then that then I certainly don't want to have to be compared to you guys when I do them, you've got some serious painting chops.

It reminds me of Samurai, The brown one i mean.
I really like how the helmet is colorful, like the Samurai of yesteryear (previously stated)

I like the one on the left overall, but the highlights and coloring on the blue-helmeted one's armor seem to be a bit better. I vote to use the cream color helmet, but the blue robes and same shading as the Dark Eldar with the blue helmet (unless this is just a trick of the lighting).

I'm with Smitty on this; why not the iced blue? Looks very striking and an army with that strong of color will absolutely stand out on the tabletop.

However, if that's not something you'd want to do, I'd go with the paintscheme on the left with the more muted helmet.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Out of them all i think the ice blue helmed one is the best, the first two schemes seemed like a bit too much was going on.

Theres something about raiding planets and then bathing in the slaves misery and torment that really gets me. I love DE, and can now play in 2000point matches with the addition of my latest stuff! Kabal of the Purple Blaze.

I also have 2 squads of IG Shock troopers and a Platoon Comand squad as a start to my IG army For Cadia Check out my blog - http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/380874.page#3047386

Thanks all for the comments.

I am going to go with the pale sand colored helmet. Your suggestions have really helped me to nail this down.

I'm going to open a blog in the painting section to cover the rest of my progress on this army.

Thanks again!

your second scheme I feel is the best looking one. It may not be fully unique but it has a good balance of color. Then again I have been playing Chaos for so flippin long its not even funny. Cant wait until I can revamp my old sisters army.

Which one is the second one, with the blue helmet or the yellow sand colored helmet?

Thanks much!

I feel I should mention why I am seeking input for my army. I like the feedback, helps me see things form other perspective, abut additionally, I want to go to some tournaments and have a chance at best painted army. I may not be able to win many games, but at least my army will look good.

So if you all provide your input, it will help me to figure out what they judges will be looking at and improve my chances.

Again. Thanks much to all for your thoughts.
