So I´m new to fantasy and rather new to 40k aswell (I´ve only played a year). Anyways I was thinking about Dwarfs since I really like the character and fluff of the army.

Most people tend to prefer Hammerers to Long Beards with great weapons. Hammerers get better special rules and come out to less points as well.

You can't take 4 grudge throwers in a 2,500 point list.

I would take, in every army:
1) Rangers
2) Character with rune of brotherhood (to join the rangers), and rune of challenge.

That combo lets you deploy at the maximum charge range of an enemy unit, and force them on turn 1 to charge (failing 35/36 times) or flee. This can throw your opponents whole battle plan into disarray as the unit wheels sideways possibly blocking other units, or flees, creating a gap.

It's my only must have for dwarves, and it really is that good. The economy version (10 rangers + thane), only runes you 220 points. I've had it buy me extra turns of shooting.

I like that tactic, just plain mean!

Edit:

I noticed that to take both Rune of Challenge and Brotherhood you need to have two separate Runic Talismans. Are you able to do that on a single character? Army Builder won't let me, but we all know AB isn't perfect.

Law of Runes:
1) You may have up to 3 runes on an item
2) You may only have a single master rune on an item
3) You cannot have identical items on other dwarfs.

I'd pick up an army book, it's pretty useful to have.

Matt i want to try that tactic, anyway you can post like a picture with paint or something to show how this is done optimally?

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

I'm ok with not being 100% on obscure rules for armies I don't (yet) play, thanks for the clarification though!

Edit:

Aha! So it was actually my own doing... I assumed I couldn't add more runes to his talisman but AB was more than happy to let me (though blanking out the other Master runes, per the Law of Runes). As above, sounds very mean and very awesome and if (when?) I start Dwarfs there shall be a Ranger unit for this purpose.

Edit #2:

No? It seems Grudge Throwers are Specials, thought you could take up to 6 of the same Special unit in a 2500? It certainly doesn't come close to your 1250 limit on them.

Kirbinator, you're thinking of the composition rules for a Grand Army (3,000+) not a standard Army. At this points level, it's 3 duplicate specials, 2 duplicate rares.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

(off-topic): Do dark elves live in hovels? I thought it was a dark cave or lair or something, surely

As to reading too many 'ard boyz lists, I hear that!! Will be nice when it's behind us and no longer infecting our collective brains...
