So the way i read the codex, Crowe pretty much has to run around on his own, unless there's an IC with him. He doesnt have the Independant Character special rule and he doesnt start in a unit. Is this right?

Most people only take him for the Purifiers as troops thing which i'm told is pretty damn shiny.

Agreed. Just makes him otherwise useless imo. Ill still be taking him just dont see why GW did that when a normal Brotherhood Champion is an independant character. I understand his Psychic power used along with a Purifier Squad would be cheese but they could have wrote a side note saying it was illegal to stack it or something.

He doesn't make the army OP against hordes...
He simply lets you build an army that is OP against hordes.
He gives up a kill point (unless you sneak him into cover or a vehicle) and can be pretty handy with his non functional beat stick.
