So I visit my local GW fairly regularly, and still haven't seen any Grey Knight players. I'll be honest, I'm relieved that I haven't had my arse handed to me on a silver (<-Anyone?) plate. But I am beginning to wonder if there that many Grey Knight players after the new release, and if they are as over powered as they are hyped up to be. The evidence (Like assasins, FNP psychic Termies, practically ALL their HQ's) suggests I would get owned. What I am essentially saying is-Are they any good??

There are quite a few players picking them up or getting their old models out in my area. A friend of mine played 2 different GK players just last night.

They are elite, and they're tough, but they aren't as unbeatable as a lot of forums are making them out to be. If they lose some units early on, then from what I've seen so far they have a difficult time getting the ball rolling. They aren't very easy to play with (and do well), and the lists are strikingly small.

I personally have tougher battles against BA and SW still, but its still early. I imagine GK players will be sifting out their lists for another couple months before I get a real accurate gauge of how 'elite' the whole army is.

Sometimes, you just gotta take something cause the model is freakin cool...

They are good. Very good. In fact they are so good, the term "Good" in the dictionary has a picture of them by it.

They're good, they're not broken.

If you give a GK army to a person you normally beat, you'll still beat them in most of your games.

If you give a GK army to a person you normally lose to... second verse same as first.

Ultimately, it's a low model count list that has the tools that it needs to take on other armies, even though they'll be outnumbered by a bit.

As they are the only army I actually own, having just returned to the hobby after 5+ years, I'm using them. I had my first few games last night, discounting the little refresher sessions I had with staff at my local GW.

My opinion on them...

They can hurt, a lot. They have many, many nasty little things that can mess over your opponent. But if anything does go wrong for you, it can go seriously wrong. Loose a few too many men, or a few too many bad rolls, and your elite force is now looking rather pitiful.

And yeah, its shocking the difference in army sizes you end up with.

In my area we have at least 4 GK players, but most seem to fall into the trap of bringing too many of the shiny toys (SRs, DKs, LRs and paladins all in one army), and therefore end up losing horribly to more balanced armies.

IMO it is very easy to make a bad GK list, and that is the only thing i have seen so far outside of the internet. The better lists with lots of dreads and razorbacks will be strong, but not any stronger than any of the other 5th edition marine books.

I've actually been looking forward to fighting them and killing my first Dreadknight

They sound like a challenge to both the enemy and the user

Dreadknights honestly are not terribly hard to take down. (Found this by having mine squished fairly often last night in games).

They do however, tend to take out their worth in points if not more when used right.

Well, if you have a lot of high str low ap weapons, you will kill a Dreadknight pretty quickly

I like the GKs so far, can't go too overboard on the shinies though... also can't take LRs as dedicated transports for terms /facepalm makes me sad.
