We had this come up in one of my games yesterday.

What happens, if during the course of declaring charges you declare a charge on a unit.

Later in the charge phase you declare a charge on another unit which choose to flee.

Now here is where the issue came up. The unit that fled the charge moved in between a charging unit and the target of the charge.

Now it isnt 100% clear in the rulebook how to address this problem (or we missed it). We just played it that the unit flees a second time...

Any Clarification?

Encountered this a number of times. You cannot make contact with an enemy unit unless you are completing a charge against that unit. So if there is no way to complete your charge because something will prevent you from making contact (impassible terrain, friendly unit, fleeing enemy unit) then the charge fails.

If I get a chance, I'll see if I can't get together some diagrams...

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

This is why the sequence is important.
Don't declare charges that might result in blocking more important charges, and declare in a sequence to give you the most options.

But if done the other way, it's possible, right?

I.e., enemy flees from first unit, blocks second unit. Second unit declares a charge against it, it auto-flees, and then they test to declare a charge against the target they originally wanted to charge.

So if you declare the charges in another order, it's full of win... at least from my understanding.

You are correct, it is very important that you declare your charges in the proper order in 8th, I had a real hard time with it when I was first playing with the new rules.

I've used the order of charge declarations to my advantage several times where I manage to get a gyro or rangers behind enemy lines.

I'll use a block to declare a charge on a fleeing unit with a block, see how far they go, and decide if I need to charge with something in the backfield to "bounce" the unit back in reach of the original charger.

But won't the "original charger" have already resolved their charge, and failed it, by that point?

No; you resolve all charge *reactions* immediately, but move all chargers once all charges have been completed

I don't know how many of my battle plans went astray in my early days because the dang cowardly enemy chose to flee from all my charges... stupid sneaky gits - it's just not cricket
