I have a small list when it comes to Orks. Mechanization is good place to start for expanding. Any advice on making scratch built trukks and Battlewagons? Please note I'm still very green when it comes to converting and haven't done very much beyond mixing various kits to form new models

The most important things are the wheels and the chassey i think its called Its like a frame so you can put on some stuff like a steering wheel etc. For the chassey get a rectangular peice of plasti card and make a driver compartment sort of thing on it. Mount it on wheels that you can get from cheap toys

Pronounced as you have written it, "chassey" but spelt Chassis.

The BW kit has so many bits that it may be worth getting just for that.

So true, I just finished my first battlewagon and i've so much stuff left over I could easily convert two IG tanks into looted wagons (maybe a few bits from all the other ork stuff left over from boyz mob boxes too). I feel a bit bad leaving so much off the battlewagon because it was a gift and seems like a waste to have the bits lying around.

For just starting out Hot melt glue is your friend cos you can stick bits on and then pull them apart again peeling off the glue if it doesn't look right. Also broken partbuilt lots from ebay can be a cheap source of spare parts. Plasticard is not too cheap in general but on the other hand a couple of sheets goes a long way, I just used credit cards and scraps of scavanged plastic until I felt I knew what I was doing.

i agreewith tnm use old model cars sooped up with bitz but be careful theres a difference between a car with ork bitz and a battle wagon

Dollar stores are an Ork players friend. There is so many weird cheap things made in China, that these stores sell, and the toy trucks/cars are so cheap and full of gears and doodads that you dont care if you break it into pieces.

Youve got to have an imagination when planning to build Ork vehicles. So just work on that part, and youll start getting the BigMek in your to build vehicles.

My Orks have expanded a bit since I posted on this. I have two fulls sets of Black Reach Orks 5 Bikkas my uncle gave me and 5 OOP Tankbustas. I made a custom BW that was pretty nice using an old Semi Truck the conversion was quite nice. However my 40k Playing friend has kids and regrettably I was stupid enough to leave it over there. Suffice to say I'm out one Battlewagon. Should I build a new battlewagon or just build enough trukks for the whole army?

Came here to say this.
I'm in the middle of konverting some plastic cars I found for a dollar a piece for buggies. Like KC said, you want to pick the ones that are the right size but more importantly, ones that dont matter if you break them.

I love making kustom stuff for the orks, I have about 5 different projects going right now

As far as the battlewagon though, thats on my "to get" list. I've heard good things but dont know personally.
