Assuming that the object is not obviously of Tyranid origin, and would be relatively small, we would largely ignore it's approach and stick with looking at an awesome lightshow as the object enters orbit. We would have little reason to doubt this rock would contain any more life than the next. The night it enters atmosphere, it veers off the calculated course and fails to burn in atmosphere.

To that, the reaction would most likely be to put a satellite to watch it, with groups of scientists coming to see why the pod didn't burn during it's descent. The genestealers will have been gone, or will impregnate these scientists, who discover something of the pods' origin (That it's semi-organic, and seems to have contained something. They may be hypnotized by GS that there was nothing out of ordinary, which would stall any response.

As far as I know, few countries keep their militaries in high enough alert to scramble airstrikes without any delay and without any tactical intelligence as to what exactly are we fighting. As they landed some distance from any major powers, there might be "slight" resistance for nuking the place off the maps. We don't do that these days. Also, such course of action could easily cause WW III, which would doom most of us humans. Genestealers, I assume, would be highly resistant to the effects of radiation, and might survive the attack. (Remember, it would be highly unlikely that any country would nuke a normal meteor drop site until something seems to be wrong with it, meaning that GS would have had some time to flee.

Finally, if genestealers got to a port city, people they impregnate would be spread all over the globe before any substantial evidence of danger would be gathered. By then, first generation hybrids are roaming all over. Most people wouldn't know, as the unwitting parents are under mind control from the hybrid. Hybrids would be home schooled and isolated from other humans. I'm fairly certain that the world at large would take far too long to authorize a purge that would kill all hybrids and stealers.
The genestealers would have no reason whatsoever to engage any military before they have an almost certain victory over any adversaries. The way genestealer infestations are normally discovered in 40k is by detecting their psychic signal that calls down a Hive fleet (which we can't detect) or when they reveal themselves (at which point the planet needs to be saved by IG or Astartes. And these worlds, more often than not, have military strength greater than Earths population.

In short, we're pretty much doomed unless we somehow unite to form a dystopian mega-nation that commits routine purges in order to keep GS numbers down.
