Howdy,

Long time reader, first time poster on dakka.

Just had a Circle of Orboros force painted by Blue Table. Cannot begin to express how disappointed the results are. Yes I've talked to Shawn. Yes he was incredibly helpful. Several mistakes happened along the way and they were fixed. The end result still sucked though. Not here to bash on BTP and start a flamewar though.

I wanted to ask for other painting companies/people posters on here have used/heard about and that were satisfied.

Originally I got the name of a friends painter, he was booked so he gave me a lead, he was too expensive, he gave me a lead...so on and so forth. Chasing down every name you here gets old and frustrating.

Wait...

BTP did a bad job? Can we see photos of this "Botched mess"?

And try... Hmm. Iffy, when she gets spots, NextLevel Painting, and GMM Studios. All of them have accounts here on Dakka. Cheap, easy,, and beautiful.

Generally speaking, painting services are like a lunch sampler, you get two of the following:
1) top notch paint quality
2) quick efficient service
3) reliability
4) low cost

You're rarely going to find a good, cheap painter that's not booked.

If you're looking for pics....

http://www.bluetablepainting.com/view_gallery.php?galleryID=4412

The pics with grey rocks were done incorrectly. The purple/pink pics are the semi correct colors. Looks worse in person.

Polonius - I'm aware, however none of the models were even pinned. So out of the 4....I got low cost (sorta) and the 'quick' part of 'quick efficient'.

Like I said, this isn't about the crapass job. This is about getting leads on new painters.

Yeah, which was my point. You'll get plenty of leads, but the ones that are booked are either going to be pricier, or not as good. Or not as reliable.

Well, "looks worse in person" is one of those statements that's hard to really put value on. I'm not saying they don't, it's just that they seem to look like a pretty standard, lower end painting service paint job.

Not to toot my own horn, but I have received very positive feed back on my work, and have always been able to turn the job around with in the clients time frame....

Check out the blog in my sig if you like.

I have no experience with painting contracts, but maybe its a get what you pay for kind of thing, and unless you go for those "too expensive" guys, the results will only be mediocre.

Doesn't look too sucky to me. Looks like a fast, airbrushed basic TT quality job. Unless you requested (and paid for) competition or display standard work I don't think you've really got cause to complain. BTP have been going for years, and yes, they're low end, quick jobs for the most part. They're more than capable of high end work too though.

When providing my service I don't guarantee timeframes, purely to avoid rush jobs. We work to a high end standard, and charge pretty much accordingly. We make sure the client and ourselves are happy before signing off a job, and make sure that we keep the WIP communications open so we know we're doing the right thing. I have an available guy now (GD finalist) if you want a booking.

It does sound to me though like you expected too much for your money.

I would like to echo Winter's comments. Most gamers compare what they get versus what they see in magazines.

I'm a happy client of Winterdyne studios and can vouch for the studio's quality. The studio's highest end stuff surpass the entries you see in WD magazine. I have over 10k pts worth of WHFB painted by BTP so I know what you're getting. Your project seems like a L3 job to me.

TBH, in the end, I found that BTP charged me too much for the quality of work I'm getting. GMM, Next Level & Winterdyne are all studios I have had a great relationship with.

Hope the above recommendations help.
