The legions seem to be an extension of the Primarchs so your question is still relevant as it is worded. Iron Warriors would seem to be a cross between immovable object and mechanical experts... based on the fluff.

For the Iron Warriors I'd say above all else...Bitterness and Spite, but also Stubbornness, Paranoia, Hate, Engineering, Tanks, Artillery, Siegecraft.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.
New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |

They don't represent things like some high school literature teacher would have you believe. They had specific jobs.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."
This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Meh, my Hastings only has False Gods, Horus Rising, and Battle for The Abyss.
What, specifically, is "incorrect"?

According to Lexicanum, Prospero Burns says that each Primarch was supposed to have a 'Wyrd' or role in the Emperor's armies. (note 'Wyrd' means Fate or Personal Destiny in Anglo-Saxon culture)
Horus was designed to the the Warmaster
Leman Russ was intended to be the Executioner
Unspecified Primarchs were intended to be Statesman, Storm Trooper and Leader of Armies, but does not specify which.

I've thought about this some before. Some of my guesses are:
Sanguinus - Honorguard?
Fulgrim - martial perfection? Duelist?
Pertubo - sieger. ie: Breaking bastions
Dorn - Defender, counter to Pertubo.
Guilliman - Tactician
Corax - Shock troop? (jump pack)
Mortarion - Tolerance or resistance. Hostile environs specialist?
Konrad - assassin
Horus - Ambition, leader
Magnus - bare curiousity, magician
Lorgar - Fervour. Spiritual guardian?
Angron - naked violance. Berzerker/warrior?
Anyway those are some of them and my thoughts behind them. Some have neat 'roles' as you suggested, but other's are so abstract that they don't fit nicely. Such as Sanguinus who always represented hope, duty, purity with his story of withstanding temptation even knowing it lead to his death, but what 'role' would he have?

Honour would be the Imperial Fists, since their Primarch is the "honest fair Noble one", and they perform honour duels, and thier defensive siege stuff is protecting the innocent.
1. Blood Angels are his beauty.
2. Imperial Fists his Wisdom and Honour
3. World Eaters his wrath
4 Luna Wolves his ambition
5 Dark Angels his desire for atonement
6 Night Lords how others fear him
7 Death Guard his Resilience
8 Emperor's Children his love of art and beauty and culture
9Ir on Hands his vision of strength
10 Thousand Sons his psychic might
11 Ultrasmurfs his Dogma
12 Raven Guard his secretly being a ninja
13 White Scars the swiftness of his retaliation
14 Alpha Legion...don't judge me! 17/18 isn't that bad!
15 Space Wolves his rebelliousness
16 Iron Warriors his spite
17 Salamanders his love of all imperial citizens
18 Word Bearers his faith and devotion to the GC.

Duelist would be Dorn, not Fulgrim. There are three traits IF possess:
1. Mastery of Siegecraft
2. Mastery/love of duels
3. Fair, wise, level-headedness Automatically Appended Next Post: GCMandrake wrote:According to Lexicanum, Prospero Burns says that each Primarch was supposed to have a 'Wyrd' or role in the Emperor's armies. (note 'Wyrd' means Fate or Personal Destiny in Anglo-Saxon culture)

Pure conjecture (and strained in parts), but my list would be:
Lion El'Johnson the Shadow
Magnus the Lorekeeper
(Corruption of Mind vs Corruption of Body)
Fulgrim the Artisan
Ferrus Manus the Craftsman
(Technology vs Art)
Perturabo the Besieger
Rogal Dorn the Defender
(Siege vs Defence)
Jaghatai Khan the Harrier
Mortarion the Annihilator
(Hit and Run vs Slow Attrition)
Leman Russ the Executioner
Konrad Curze the Assassin
(Total destruction vs Surgical Strike)
Sanguinius the Honourable
Angron the Destroyer
(Honourable Combat vs Dishonourable Victory at any cost)
Roboute Guilliman the Statesman
Horus the Warmaster
(Leadership in Battle vs Leadership in Peace)
Lorgar the Zealot
Vulkan the Restrained
(Religion over all vs humanity over all)
Corax the Stormtrooper
Alpharius/Omegon the Clandestine
(Sudden strike from the skies vs sudden strike from the shadows)

I agree with almost all of that. I especially like the contrast. I will bold the few things I disagree with.
In order I will change the things I bolded:
1. Corruption of purpose (nothing matters besides hunting The Fallen)
2. Sanguinius is more passion and beauty to me then honour, since several primarchs (i.e. RG, Corax, especially Dorn) were very honourable.
3. Being angry doesn't mean dishonourable. I'd say Passion for retribution ( BA) vs. bloodlust
4. Roboute Guilliman would definitely be more The Tactician than a statesman, as the only primarch who could really be called Level-Headed would be Dorn.
