So! I recently started getting in to 40k after being introduced by a friend. I bought a CSM battleforce, designed a colour scheme, and slowly started assembling. It wasn't until a while later I had my first battle and quickly threw my marines together. I loved the battle though, so that's given me some motivation to get painting properly, and hopefully by sharing the journey here, i'll have even more, as well as gain some pretty sound advice. So without further ado, lets get some images on here.

I've painted some guys up, I didn't want a typical chaos scheme so I've used inverted Black Legion colours. I posted some WIP pictures of my Rhino quite a while a go too, which is pretty much done now.

First up, 1 CSM, just needs basing.

Now my Chaos Lord, fair bit of work left, I need to redo the helmet, touch up the silver, finish the racks and lightning claws, and the base.

And the Rhino, just need to redo the bolter chap, and finish the spikes.

Everything else that needs painting so far.

C&C most definately welcome, cheers for looking!

It looks you have the painting down fairly well, but you have missed some details like the eyes one the first CSM pictured.

On the modelling side, you should definitely drill out your gun barrels... not having them drilled kinda makes them look like they're playing laser tag instead of fighting a ten thousand year war.

Other than that looking good so far, just wanted to point those two things out to you.

Off to a good start for sure. Your motivation is evident and you'll find your painting skills will improve dramatically as you have more exposure. One tip I'd offer is try thinning your paints a bit, and dry your brush a bit more before applying the drybrush highlights.

Looking forward to seeing where this project goes for you, always happy to see another enemy of the Imperium! Death to the False Emperor!

@JoeyHeadwounds. Thanks for pointing those out, I've been looking at alot of tutorials for eyes recently after I had a massive headache with the Termie Lord, I'll have a crack at that soon. And I'm borrowing a dremmel from a friend to do some other stuff so I'll definately sort out the barrels. Thanks for the pointers.

@Skalk. I know what you mean, I've already noticed enough of a difference from my first models to warrant redoing some, I might post some pictures of the first ones to show the difference. I'm trying to move away from drybrush highlights really, I don't like the lack of control, but this way they come out thicker so definately more practice needed. Thanks for the support.

Also, I'm trying to think of how to paint the Zerkers, I'm not a fan of the standard scheme, way too orange, and the gold added just makes it too garish in my opinion. Don't think it will suit them if I do them totally the same scheme as my other CSM though. Anybody got any ideas?

Well, what I'm planning on doing with mine is standard Iron Warriors colors on most of the model, except for the right shoulder pad, which will be the standard red and brass. Also no "bunny ears". And blood... lots of blood.

So basically, I would say make them look like yours, but with just enough details done to show that it is a Khorne worshiping psychopath. Really it's up to you to, so find something you like and run with it..

Interesting ideas, I'm working on an aspiring champion with pretty much a reversed scheme which is looking good, and the shoulder pad idea is something I've considered, but I was slightly put off by the codex examples of black legion zerkers, although they kept the helmets red if i remember correctly, which just looked odd.

Thanks for the input guys!

Uni assessment on monday so lots of work to do, updates soon though!

Remember the colors of Khorne are red, black, and brass. The GW Berzerkers are the red w/ brass trim, but there's nothing saying you can't go w/ mostly black and some red / brass trim. Or any combination. I've seen Black Legion Berzerkers that were wearing Black Legion colors on their armor but they were unquestionably sons of the Blood God. Just don't paint them in garish pastels hahhahhaa

Cheers for the advice Skalk, hopefully I'll start work on them soon so I can play around with some ideas.

Well I had my Uni assessment yesterday so summer has begun! managed to get a little bit of stuff done today, nothing huge.

Firstly, played around with the termie lords lightning claws, came out ok, still not very pleased with the rest of the model.

Also went over the cloak abit to try and tone it down.

And started work on magnetizing icons for a CSM squad, as I'm going for a chaos undivided army I figured I'd have a go at magnetizing so I can switch around between battles. Unfortunately I had to use a slightly bigger magnet than I would've wanted so it's taking some sculpting but I'm pretty happy with the results! (I've used a model that my GF painted, so excuse the garish pastels Skalk haha)

As always C&C welcome, and thanks for looking!

Have you ever tried this stuff?

It turned this shirt from Space Wolves Grey to whatever it is now. Just a simple wash:

Awesome conversion work on the Icon Bearer, the magnet idea is genius!

What are you using for the base on this one? It looks like he is walking in maggots, which is pretty awesome.

@Skalk - no I haven't tried it, it's definately something I want to though. I don't really get to spend much money on hobby stuff but I might have to treat myself haha

@Lord Scythican - it's just some bog standard flocking, looks more like dirt/dead leaves in real life, but it's not been applied very well there, basing is something I need to do properly

Hey guys, been a while since an update. Been getting quite alot done but haven't had a chance to take photos yet, hopefully I'll be able to tommorow, in the mean time just a little update.

A friend of mine was given a few oop vehicles, and he kindly passed a couple on to me, one of which was a old rhino with extra armour. Perfect to turn in to a vindicator! I only really play against my mate who doesn't mind about size difference of the old models, so its a win win. I used some left over parts from my other rhino and predator, and a random drinks bottle top for the barrel, as well as a bit of milliput to fill some gaps.

Let me know what you guys think!
