Hello, welcome to my little painting adventure. After my epic failure with a Scab Red color theme, I have decided to move to a Royal Blue based one. The main reason I am here is for you guys to critique (be tough, but not mean ) because I want to get better. I'll show you a couple models I have so far.

I had a blue guardsmen scheme.

Dark Blue Flak Armor, Greyish BDU. Looked nice.

This is one of my guardsmen models (clearly). What i'd like to know about this one is what I can do to add more detail. Obviously I'm going to clean him up a bit but what do you think I could add?

p.s. the face will come dont worry about that

Wash the BDU IMO.

Is the Armor Black or just very dark Blue?

Well, not too bad. How long have you been painting? Also, is both the armor and the uniform underneath it supposed to be the same color?

All you need is a highlight and wash.

Either Drybrush with a blue that is one step brighter than the blue your using, or do line highlights on all the raised areas.

This is what mine looked like: (Not to great)

A bit brighter, but, this is the highlighting I mean. I've also always been biased to put a whit privates rank on the shoulder

thats a very good point. I completely forgot that they are separate things. would you recommend that I do the uniform underneath the same Khaki color as the pants and sleeves? and a few months about. Im rather new to this paiting deal.

And to revackey: what a coindicedence, but that inverted V shape is exactly what i did on all my flamers right shoulders. and thank you for your picture. that helps alot

Nice Concept but try using washes and or smaller brushes for details

I'd suggest painting the upper part of the cloth (between the legs and the torso) the same as the rest of the cloth on the model. Another thing I would change is the red on the top of the lasgun. Somehow it just doesn't look right to me. Also consider painting the eagles on the chest, helmet and gun white, as it really makes them stand out from the rest of the model. Other than that, just follow what everyone else has said, so washes, highlights, and smaller brushes. I'd also thin the paint so it doesn't obscure detail

Just my 2 cents
