I'm looking into competitive gaming, however, I play Elysian Drop Troops.
I know it would probably be much easier to just play them using the regular IG codex, but I would like to know if there are many/any
(prominent) tournaments on the East coast, preferably in New England.

And FYI I have tried to do research on Google with little results. Let's just hope I'm not good with the internet....

Only if you consider Chicago the east coast.

Also, Adepticon allows FW units, but not lists.

I also would like to ask how other people would react if someone asked to have a match and pulled out a Forgeworld list. In the list I am using, the majority of the units are actually pulled from the regular IG codex with changes to costs and rules. Would this affect one's reaction to Forgeworld?

The Forgeworld Lists that I can find are

SM Siege Vanguard Assault
The Tyrant's Legion
Elysian Drop Troops
Ork Dread Mob
Traitor Guard
Death Korp of Krieg

Most of these are just regular armies with some gimmicky rules and specialty units.
