As I just picked up Galrauch and am converting up Kholek, I wondered what level both would be legal at- and it's pretty much 5K on the nose! I was also pleasantly surprised to see that I can have legal core with just one more box of trolls. Now to convince Jin to a game...

5000 Pts - Warriors of Chaos Roster - Monster Mash 5K

Galrauch - 616
Kholek - 605
Exalted BSB, MoK, Juggernaut, Talisman of Preservation, Charmed Shield, Flail, Stream of Corruption - 274
Sorcerer, Lvl 2, MoT, Disc, Infernal Puppet,Talisman of Protection, Third Eye of Tzeentch - 235
Throgg - 175

10 Trolls - 450
10 Trolls - 450
8 Trolls - 360

8 Ogres, MoN, Chaos Armor, GWs, Full Command - 480
6 Dragon Ogres, Champion - 410

Shaggoth, AHW - 275
Giant - 225
Hellcannon - 205
Warshrine - 130
Spawn - 55
Spawn - 55

Total - 5000

If I decide that two spawn (or Scyla Anfringrimm) are just not worth the ground they lurch on, I'll swap in 3 units of hounds with some points to spare. I could also decide to go with a chariot instead of the warshrine, since I'm building it to be interchangeable between the two.

Also note that I included unit champions where I could, since having a champion be able to challenge and allow Kholek/Throgg (or even Galrauch/BSB when needed) to fight rank and file is a Big bonus... rather than having all their kills get stuck on a sacrifical unit champion from the enemy.

Thoughts on the madness?

I like it Crazy awesome you should post the pic of Kholek when hes done.

Maybe give the bsb a halberd instead if a flail because he has the juggers help with the armor so maybe that or a biting blade.

For the sorcerer on disc I would give him a biting blade so that way if he feels like it he can kill war machine crew more easily.

So sorcerer with biting blade and bsb with halberd just because.

Is the advantage of the halberd just to get the +1 str in continued rounds of combat? It was very late when I wrote this, but I thought a halberd made the bearer strike last... which would be a waste of his initiative.

Biting blade's not a bad thought but I would need to clear out 5 points of magical items, since they're both currently maxxed at 50.

Thanks for the comment

I would love to see this army. That is a crap-ton of monsters.

I think the halberd gives you +1 to str. and requires 2 hands, but you still strike in initiative order, but hopefully someone who knows the rules better can verify that.

Over 3k and my eyes start to glaze over ... But I spy giant monsters leading smaller monsters with a side of monsters, so something good is going on

the halberd is +1Str and 2 handed. no I penelty.

this list looks like an absolute blast to play.

soooo many monsters.

I would drop the giant and a spawn to get another Shaggoth.

you could then turn the other spawn into puppies as this list could use screeners.

the warshrine is better then the chariot, i would try and get MoT on it. 4+ armor, 3+ ward means the shrine never dies and actually makes a nice tarpit.

Woah... *boggles* that's a BIG list, with out too many models. Trolls, ogres and drogres, oh my!

That's a really cool list man! It would also make for a really nicely paced 5k game seeing as there are what, 12-13 independently moving elements?

The Halberd gives +1 Str but requires two hands. Great weapons are +2 Str but ASL and 2 hands. Flail is 2 hands and +2 Str but only in the first round. I would vote halberd since Str 6 and I lots is always pretty solid. Flail is cool for first combat round bursts, but unless your BSB is punching a giant or a bunch of knights and you think you can kill them all in one round I don't know that it is worth it later. Then again, Str5 is already wounding RnF on 2's for the most part, so a flail's minor advantage might well be worth it then if they are all the same points.

If we have LOTS of time Sunday at Dakka con (or Friday if you make it) we ought to mix up my 2500 with Salvage's or Jin's 2500 to try and stop the monstrous invasion

Hey . By that time, I'll at least have half of it painted (since I will need it for the GT portion at DakkaCon) or at least, that's the plan!

Would be a lot of fun to try it out, and you're right that I think my half at least should be pretty quick to move / play.

Good points about the halberd, I think I will likely go with it rather than the flail (they're the same points). As to MoS- I was very tempted by it, it's also the only mark not currently represented in the list... will see if I can squeeze it in. I had 2 warshrines but ended up chopping off 2 ogres to upgrade 1 to a giant... I think it might actually perform decently in this list, since who is going to shoot it over Galrauch / Kholek / Shaggoth?

Without the two big fellas, I'd have a lot more numbers (another unit of ogres and dragon ogres at least, and probably a few more rare selections), but since the whole point is to field the both of them, my hope would be that they could stomp through some stuff . Jin let me know that he's coming up with a counter list, I'm looking forward to seeing it.

*L* Yea, your list positively screams "Target Saturation!" like few others I have seen Pretty scary when the least frightening big thing is a giant.
What is really scary is that even with so many big monsters you STILL have a Lv4 and a Lv2 to chuck spells and dispel. Shooting Galrauch I suppose would be priority one, with Kholek being number 2 and shaggy being 3rd. But wow, that's a LOT of T6 wounds to chew through, even with war machines. If you can manage to get an invulnerable save on Kholek (or a better on on Galrauch) they will be terrifying in the extreme. Hell, with a little box car luck you can get a 3+/3++ save on Galrauch from the 'shrine. Game over man, game over!

And wow, if you go first you can have Kholek drop a D6 Str6 lightning bolt on whatever war machine you want anyway... cripes!

Under relatively short notice, this was the meanest counter I could think of (using High Elves)
LORDS
Prince - Star Dragon, Great Weapon, Armor of Caledor, Vambraces of Defense, Other Trickster's Shard - 627
Teclis - Lore of Death - 475

HEROES
Mage - Lvl2, Seerstaff, (Shadows) - 165
Noble - BSB, Dragon Armor, Shield, Long, Bow, Banner of the World Dragon - 188
Caradryan - 175
Noble - Great Eagle, Dragon Armor, Great Weapon, Reaver Bow - 189

CORE
25x Lothern Sea Guard - Shields; Full Command, Banner of the Eternal Flame - 360
25x Lothern Sea Guard - Shields; Full Command - 350
30x Spearelves - Full Command - 295
11x Archers - Musician - 126
11x Archers - Musician - 126

SPECIAL
17x Phoenix Guard - Full Command, Banner of Sorcery, Skeinsliver - 360
24x White Lions - Full Command, Ruby Ring of Rhuin - 415
24x White Lions - Full Command, Lion Standard - 415
1x White Lion Chariot - 140
1x White Lion Chariot - 140

RARE
5x Great Eagle - 250
2x Repeater Bolt Thrower - 200

Basically, LOTS of shooting to whittle you down, Teclis tossing around Purple Sun here and there, a lvl2 to cast hexes if need be. Lots of S6/S5 attacks everywhere, most units immune to Fear. A Dragon Lord to hunt down any of your rares/Heroes.

Interesting list Jin. For a WoC based counter, I was thinking a few lords sorcs, one with fire and one with shadow or death (prob Death), and two level 2s with Lore of Tizz. Then Warriors. Lots of warriors. And GW marauders.

Heh, well that's the big question .

I think with a game of this size, you really need to increase the table-size you're playing on, 'cause otherwise, it just ends up being a straight up Meat-Grinder.

Eek, the banner of the world dragon with Teclis takes my lunch money . Am I mis-reading, it sounded like you said there was a dragon lord in there, but I'm not seeing him.

It's definitely a nice anti-thesis to my list! I gotta think of how to get to Teclis before he, well, gets me

We'll definitely have to do this later in the summer (unfortunately Jin's out of town for DakkaCon). Gives me good motivation to get painting

This looks like it could be quite mean! I love playing huge Fantasy games, but so few people seem to do it so I would love to see how this ends up.

You seem to be fighting High Elves with a major lack of scrolls however. You definitely need to throw at least a Dispel Scroll in there, especially at 5k, and if nothing else maybe some of the other scrolls because lets face it, toad Teclis is the best Teclis, for you anyways.

Other than that it looks good! Definitely going to be a blood bath.

As for the table size, in my personal experience we always add a few (or alot) of tables depending on the game size, but we always keeping the armies deployment zones 24" apart. So if you use two 4x6 tables and you deploy deploy on the long side (assuming you play on a 6x8) you would each get 24" deployment, and still have 24" between your deployment zones.
Especially since you don't have to put your shooting guys up to the line, it would almost be unfair to have a bigger distance in depolyment zones.

Thats how I tend to do it normally, but there are of coarse countless ways to do it!

Oh my god. Please post the battle report up. I am so looking forward to reading it! The monster heavy list looks awesome and it'd be absolutely great fun to play, I wouldn't be able to get all of that painting done though, it'd be too much for me. I'm very much liking the High Elves counter-list as well, though I'd take a couple more repeater bolt throwers. I don't actually play High Elves though so I don't know if that'd work well or not. The Lore of Death is very fun to play with so as I said before, I very much look forward to reading the battle report. Have fun playing the match!

Shhhhhhhhhhhh about the bolt throwers

Buttler, great point about the scroll- I had included the puppet instead, thinking that Teclis would be casting mostly with irresistible force... However, if he ever doesn't it'd totally be worth it!! The toad one in particular sounds extremely appealing... I think I may swap the sorcerer's gear for that (it's 50 points) and just hide him from missile fire at the beginning.

Othewise, I can give him a normal scroll, and golden eye of tzeentch. I do remember not getting a good chance to use it last time when I played against Jin's Teclis army, though... he either failed to cast really high value spells, or cast them IF it seemed.
