So I'm new to fantasy, and this is my first real list. I'm not really sure about anything for this list, especially the banners and items.
Please comment, I need help lol. Thanks everyone, in advance.
Mage/100
lvl 2/35
dragonscale sheild/20
dispel scroll/20
35 spearmen/315
full command/25
lion standard/25
20 archers/220
20 light armor/20
full command/25
lion chariot/140
17 swordmasters/255
bladelord/12 sword of battle/20
musician/6
standard bearer/12 banner of sorcery/50
repeater bolt thrower/100
repeater bolt thrower/100
Total: 1500
The mage goes with the swordmasters in a 6 by 3 block.
I know I need more Lords/heroes but I don't know which ones to use though. Any comments are welcome. Thank you again.

1) Wizards can't buy armor. If you don't wear armor, you can't buy magic armor.
2) Archers don't need light armor. 20 points spent on a 6+ save just isn't worth it.
3) Blade Lord gives up his +2 strength great weapon to use a +1 attack sword? Not a good idea.
At 1500 points, I'd drop the stuff listed above (saves 60 points) and maybe drop a bolt thrower, in favor of a Noble, upgraded to BSB.
Also, don't take a level 1 wizard with banner of sorcery. You are generating bonus power dice, but don't have enough spell selection to make it pay off. If you want to go magic, up to a level 2, and take the item that gives you an additional spell (instead of the dispel scroll), or drop the banner of sorcery, and just toss all your dice at Drain Magic each phase.

As an additional comment, please don't list the individual prices of upgrades/magic items. While you may list the sum total points for any units you list, it's against forum policies to post up individual points.
That said, HawaiiMatt's points are pretty spot on for the most part.
An additional point to make would be that High Elves generally want to minimize their Core selections to be more effective.

What would you recommend doing with the noble? put him with the swordmasters? And what banner would he take?
Also I have another Mage, so I could use that. I could always go up in points, this was just a random point value because my stuff equaled this much.
One more question, is having the spearmen in a huge block like that better like like 2 20 man squads?
Also,
I thought that the dragonscale shield was magic armor, and he's a lvl 2 wizard not 1.
Sorry, about a lot of stupid questions, I'm a 40k player and really new to fantasy.
Thanks for your comments

Mage: What Lore are you going to take? Also, since the Mage cannot take a mundane armor, it cannot take magic armor. A HE Mage cannot take a regular shield so it cannot take the Dragonscale Shield. If you'd like a save, just give the Mage the Guardian Phoenix.
Archers: Light armor only give a 6+ save which is not very useful for its points. Also, the Champion does not add much in my opinion so you may want to drop it.
Swordmasters: If your Bladelord uses the Sword of Battle, it cannot use its great weapon.
If you drop the Sword of Battle, Light Armor, and the Archer Champion you can buy a Great Eagle which would probably be a good investment.

Is it worth it to give the mage a save? and I was thinking either lore of life or high elf magic.
Then should I take out the whole command for the archers?
You say great eagles are good? at what? I know nothing about them. And can't I not use one since I have 2 rare choices already?

In the new rulebook they removed the slot system for the percentage system. Now its:
Max 25% Lords
Max 25% Heroes
Min 25% Core
Max 50% Special
Max 25% Rare
So what that means is now up to 25% of your army could be a Lord choice, up to 25% of your points could be spent on Heroes, you HAVE to spend atleast 25% on your Core, you can spend 50% of your army on Specials, and up to 25% on Rares.
Eagles are good in my experience at doing jobs I do not want to commit my other more expensive units to, usually suicide missions or warmachine hunting. A good example of suicide missions are OnG Fanatics(atleast when I played them last edition, before the new book). Send in the Eagle towards the Night Goblin units, force out their Fanatics, and then figure out your next move. Eagles seem to be a good buy because they are rather versatile and cheap compared to our other units.
The save on the Mage is really up to personal taste, some run with and some without. Try out a few games and if it needs one, add one.
Is what you've posted what you own? If so, I'd run:
Mage/ 165
Lvl 2
Seerstaff
35 Spearmen/365
Full command
Lion standard
20 Archers/235
Standard Bearer
Musician
Lion chariot/140
17 swordmasters/335
Full Command
Banner of sorcery
Repeater bolt thrower/100
Repeater bolt thrower/100
Great Eagle/50
Total: 1490
I'd take High on the Mage and select Curse of Arrow Attraction(because of all the shooting you have) and Shield of Saphery(To improve your chances of getting those Swordmasters across the board). Because I'm assuming you posted what you have, I left the Archers at 20 with banner/musician. If you have more, make two bare bones units of 12.
Hope this helps!

Thank you so much, that clears a lot up.
So far I have:
2 mages
prince on griffon
17 swordmasters
36 spearmen
20 archers
2 repeater bolt throwers
1 lion chariot
I know I probably should get a BSB, but I don't know what else to get.
I'm just starting High elves, so I'm open to buying whatever, But of course I want to use what I have as much as I can.
Also, this list doesn't need to be 1500. I don't even know what a standard point fantasy game is. I've heard 2250 is standard but idk. I just picked 1500 because it fit the stuff I had.

Proxying will help you out I think. You need more Swordmasters as they are so killy your opponent will not want to let them get into close combat, you need the extra bodies as wounds basically. Therefore, I'd drop the Archers down with no command and use the left over models as "counts as" or proxy swordmasters. I doubt anyone would have a problem.
Also, thinking about it, you may want your hero level mage somewhere other than the Swordmasters as they are a combat unit and you will lose the mage even with the Guardian Phoenix's 5+ ward save. If you want to run the mage with them, then use the "Unkillable Archmage". A level 4 Archmage with Forlariath's Robe, Talisman of Saphery/Preservation, and the Silver Wand.
If you want to use your Griffon, use Eltharion. The 5+ ward and extra wound greatly help the Griffon, and the high leadership make him a perfect candidate for Death's Spirit Leech spell.
So:
-Use leftover Archers as Swordmasters.
-If you want an Archmage, use the above magic items and Lore of Life.
-If you want to use your Griffon, use Eltharion with Death Magic. If you use Eltharion, run a level 2 High Mage for support in the Archers.

How many swordmasters would you recommend?
If the mage would be better by himself then i'll do that, the only reason he is with the swordmasters is that I have 17 so to make a full 6 by 3 block I put him with them.
But I could get more swordmasters or proxy them or somthing.

Do not run the mage by himself, he'll just be a target.
I've not sure how many Swordmasters as I prefer White Lions.

Ok so not thinking of fitting it into a point value yet, but here is what I got:
mage/165 (high magic)
lvl 2
seerstaff
archmage/350 (lore of life)
lvl 4
talisman of saphery
silver wand
forlariaths robe
35 spearmen/365
full command
lion standard
20 archers/220
lion chariot/140
17 swordmasters/335
full command
banner of sorcery/50
repeater bolt thrower/100
repearter bolt thrower/100
total:1775
Does this look good? and what other untis should I be looking at to add to the list (ie. more core, BSB, princes, more special, great eagles)
