I like the theme song for my army of space pirates better.

How do you like using heavy weapon squads? I usually like to hide heavy weapons in platoon or command squads. I like my heavies to have a lot of ablative wounds.

I have them function as seperate squads behind the main pack. The main problem with inducting them into infantry squads or command squads is that you can't move and shoot them. Since I move with my infantry every turn, that would be really bad for me. With the new codex, HWS's by themselves are pretty cheap.

If I've done my calculations correctly, if you drop the standards, krak grenades, and Hull LC's, and plasma pistol you can get another 2 squads, fully equipped, or another squad and a HWS. Seems like a more than fair trade.

Would you mind showing me your calculations?

ok,

Krak grenades 4x10 + 5x2 = 50 pts
standards 15x3 = 45pts
Hull LC 15x2 = 30pts
Plasma pistol = 10 points
TOTAL = 135 pts

2 Infantry squads with meltagun = 120 pts + 1 pw and meltabombs = 135pts

1 Infantry squad w melta & 1 AC HWS = 135pts

This would enlarge your blobs, and add some firepower, more boots on the ground is always good.

Are you actually blobbing them? If you are, I would suggest dropping the Krak and Melta for sure and look at 2 Priests with Chainfists (60pts each). This will protect the squads from walker assaults and allow them to hit vehicles and pop them pretty easily. At least you will not need a 6 to hit like you would with a meltabomb. You can't hide them in the squad though since they are a IC, so be careful if you do use them.

Krack -50pts
Standard (CCS) -15pts
Hull LCs -30pts
Meltabombs -15pts
Plasma Pistol or PW -10pts

Keep your CCS by your Heavy Weapon Teams to give them 'Bring it Down!' orders to make them Twin Linked. The Regimental standard helps alot with the Leadership tests of the orders by allowing a re-roll. Your not moving it anyway, so I kinda see close combat gear as a slight waste. Keep your banners in the blobs incase your assaulted. Smashing head to head with a Orc mob or Stealers means that extra wound and re-rolling hits (Priest ability) with the Chainfist and the PWs might be the difference between winning and losing.

If your looking for a extra 30pts, the OofF is an option to scrap. Yeah, it is neat, but a good player can get around it. Drop pods, just not DS/Outflank, or suck up the -1 makes it a waste of 30pts at worse and a inconvience at best. You could buy back your Regimental standard if you really want it and a plasma gun. It could also be 3 Melta guns or 2 plasma guns.

You do have the other option of ditching the Lascannon and making your CCS mobile, maybe even with a Chimera to keep up with your blobs if you want to give them the leadership re-rolls with the regimental banner.

If you don't want your Commissars killing your PWs, you could consider ditching them and scraping the points together for Yarrick, but he is expensive and would mean both of your blobs need to be within 12" of each other (for Yarrick's Stubborn bubble) or 6" for his Aura of Discipline.

Play it and see what works best for you. If anything I hope I gave you some food for thought. Good luck!

As for your list, I like it!

I think I'd put Plasma or Melta on the HQ instead of a Lascannon team, but that's just me.

It seems like a relatively effective gunline, but have you considered taking a Melta Vets unit? It might sound cliche, but it's the primary thing you are lacking. You have a few Meltaguns, but on relatively fragile infantry squads, so your ability to deal with AV14 before it hits you head on is confined to your Lascannons, which are not all that reliable.

Just my thoughts.
