Hi

First off, I had no idea where to put this , so I put it here in the hope that some kind mod will move it if this is wrong.

Now, on to business. I have been playing 40k for quite a while now and have only just heard about this, my question is, do people find it a good system to play? I would be looking at either an imperial or a chaos fleet, in case that makes a difference.

Thanking you already

I think that it is a great game. It is definitely worth the small investment.

Your not playing with fleets in this one. More or less, you get a squdron of fighters and go for it in much the same way as Wings of War.

You want fleets, go BFG.

As to the system, one word- Expensive.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

The cahs issue was my only problem with this one as well. i preferred BFG for the model count and scale.

its not a bad game from what i see. but nowadays they're throwing more flyers into 40k so my need for aerial units is satisfied.

Honestly, I would rather just play BFG or regular 40k. Aeronautica is too expensive for such an awkward scale.

I just wanted to write in to defend Aeronautica. It really is a superb game.

In terms of the size of the miniatures, the fighters are on the small side, but so are escorts from BFG. The larger ships are plenty big and have lots of potential for painting. The scale of the miniatures lets you use them in games of Epic as well.

The miniatures are not more expensive than BFG. You can buy a squadron for about 100 usd. The major difference in the cost of Aeronautica is the rulebook which will set you back about 60 usd.

All of this being said, BFG is also a very good game. So you cannot go wrong either way.

Hi

Thank you all, from the variety of responses I might see if I can get a practice game from my local club.

Bye

On the cost front if you are doing Imperial you could use the Epic 40k models (same scale) and you do get more craft for your money (4 for £15.50 using Epic vs 2 for £12.25 using FW) But the level of detail is very different.

Armies | Space Marines (Void Knights - Own Chapter), Space Wolves & Dark Angels | Imperial Guard Cadian and Kasrikin | Grey Knight/Sisters/Inquisitors | Empire - Hochland | Britanan (Relics) | Mordor & Gondor |

Hello, although I'm a static Zero.
I'm fighting all your wars.

Warning: These miniatures contain lead and should not be chewed or swallowed.

These Miniatures may well be miscast...

Ive had a flip through the rulebook for this game and it definately looks like good fun.

As for cost I wouldnt rate it much higher expense wise than battlefleet gothic (which is also a great game)

the only problem as others have mentioned is the expensive rulebook. However it crops up on ebay not infrequently so you can save by buying 2nd hand.

Our group uses AI as an interlude, or at the end of the day when we just want to have a less serious bit of fun. It's makes a great break from playing most other games as you are antisipating and not reacting to your opponant. The books are a little expensive, but once you get them the actual squadrons are relatively cheap. We normally play at 100 points as it gives a fair amount of choice, but doesn't require more than an hour or so to play. Can't recommend it enough.

AeroImp models are not the same scale as Epic flyers. They are larger. While they are not EXTREMELY larger, there is a noticeable difference when used side-by-side. If you were to use solely AeroImp models in your Epic game, it would be fine.

One of our guys has a cubic tonne of epic flyers that we use as stand ins for AI, the minis don't matter so much but the bases.

Don't know so much about epic so much, also the epic stuff is older than the hills, and hasn't grown in size like most GW minis that have had more attention.
