Did you guys know Canada has a friggin desert?

So I have begun the idea of starting a Tzeentch army (even though my nurgle one isnt finished ) With Gift of chaos spamming. Now MoT allows you to use up to two psychic powers per turn as long as they aren't both shooting attacks. Am I allowed to use GoC twice? Do I have to take two psychic tests for each time I use it, or is it just once?

Thanks for looking and answering (If you can)

You're not playing the game like I play it...why aren't you playing the game like I play it?! O_O

Yes, using GoC twice is acceptable, as stated in the Chaos FAQ with regards to Ahriman. You are using it twice though, so you will need to do the psychic test twice.

I disagree. The FAQ answer is specific to Ahriman - he can use those powers twice (and take a psychic test each time), but only because the wording for his ability is different to that of a normal Tzeentch sorcerer.

For Ahriman:
"[The Black Staff of Ahriman] counts as a force weapon, and in addition it allows Ahriman to make up to three Psychic tests in the same turn..." -p51

For Tzeentch sorcerers:
"...a model with the Mark of Tzeentch...can attempt to use up to two psychic powers per turn.." -p88

Using two psychic powers is not the same as using the same power twice.

The FAQ answer doesn't refer to Ahriman in any way. While the question is about Ahriman, at no time does the answer acknowledge him. In addition the only restriction on using the same power multiple times in the Main Rule book is on using the same Psychic Shooting Attack.

Unless Psychic Tests and Psychic Powers are considered synonymous within the chaos codex Ahriman can only ever use two powers, as he is still restricted by being a Sorceror with the Mark of Tzeentch. He can make three tests, but nothing in the Black Staff gives him permission to use three powers.

Good point - my thoughts were that the answer was in the context of Ahriman so specifically referred to him, but the language it used is very general...

Ja. They often take a specific question as an opportunity to make a more general ruling.

I think that, of the psykers who have the ability to cast two powers (MoT, Eldar with Spirit Stones, Marine Epistolaries, etc.) the only one which has a specific prohibition on casting/attempting the same power twice are Eldar, because their codex says so. Eldrad's staff granting him an exception, of course.

You think they would have figured that one out in the millennia they have been using psychic powers. (goes away grumbling)

I've always seen it as something to do with the Path of the Seer more than any lack of knowledge on their part. Whereas the barbaric human psykers would just draw from the warp and throw power around willy-nilly, their psychic rituals would limit not only their use of Chaos' power, but be set up in such a way as to not tap into it the same way too many times in a row.

Is that in the same way as their "superior" plasma weapons being both more expensive and less capable?
