No argument here, Fox News is pretty far from being fair and balanced. Not that the other stations are really any good either, just not as bad as Fox has shown itself to be.

I (almost) feel guilty for laughing at fox news these days, it's starting to feel a bit too much like laughing at a particularly stupid child.

Yeah, that, exactly that.

FOX is terrible, absolutely 100% full of dishonest bs. The other cable news channels are bad, but they're not as bad as FOX.

One problem that comes from this is when some people use the terribleness of FOX to think the other cable channels are okay (in the same way that you having your leg bitten off by a shark makes my broken leg seem not quite as serious... except that broken leg is still an unacceptable situation that needs to be fixed).

The other problem comes when people note the failings of the other stations, and attempt to use that dismiss the problems with FOX (okay so maybe my leg is gone but you can't walk on your leg either!)

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I guess he didn't bring up how the rapper did a poem with lines praising a cop killer.

Actually, Stewart did. Then he went on to read the rest of the poem & describe how the poem ends in a plea to stop violence such as cop killing.

Actually, he only brought it up tangentially, and didn't read the rest of the poem.

The poem/rap is an apology for a convicted cop killer. But apparently this is totally OK, because Johnny Cash once said something bad too.

A convicted killer could stand to apologize, no?

Condemning one poet or musician who writes and performs words of violence, mysogyny and murder while praising and excusing another is pure hypocrisy.

And again, you missed the point.

The reason Stewart was going after Fox is because they're 'condemning' Common for what he wrote, yet they're wishing Ice-T(a far far more offensive rapper who was part of the 'rise of gangsta rap' and whose twitter feed is constantly full of statements about how important it is to 'f**k the police') a happy birthday. And that they aired coverage of Johnny Cash, who was known for having tried to bribe a Sheriff's deputy, starting a forest fire killing 49/53 endangered condors, and a multitude of other things that should have gotten him arrested but didn't, being given a medal by George Bush Jr.

Yay hypocrisy!

Yay hypocrisy!

Can you possibly spot the difference between the following:
Bribing a sheriff's deputy, starting a Forest Fire, and killing a few ing birds; and
Praising someone who wounded a police officer and, once he was lying on the street bleeding, removed his sidearm and fired two bullets into the officer's skull at close range.

Can you also spot the difference between:
Wishing someone "happy birthday"; and
Inviting someone to the White House.

Do these even register as different levels from a moral and ethical standpoint? Or do you think that killing a cop is morally equivallent to killing a vulture?

Lyrics here note: this one didn't blow up my browser, but lyrics sites are notorious for doing so. Search "common assata lyrics" on google.

Short background biography:
Chick was riding in a car with some black panthers (black liberation army maybe?).
Get stopped by cops who find a gun in the car.
Someone shoots the cop, somehow get the cop's gun out and shoot him in the head, some passenger gets shot.
"Assanta" was shot in the arm.
BP/BLA drive away, are eventually stopped.
She is arrested, indicted, and eventually convicted.
Escapes prison when BLA "visitors" smuggle guns into the prison and shoot at the guards.
Runs away to Cuba.

Can you? Dub gave Johnny Cash a freakin' medal. Common was just invited to the
White House.

You make it sound like Common pulled the trigger himself.

I am comfortable making the assertion that all of those things, including killing the vulture are more morally objectionable than singing about someone who killed someone else.

Just to be clear then: You would have no problem with a president inviting a white supremicist or a slavery apologist (singing/writing about killing/oppressing someone else) to the White House over Johnny Cash.

I'm just trying to get an idea of your position.

I would have an issue with it. Then again, I probably wouldn't invite Johnny Cash to the white house either. Still doesn't change the fact that setting birds on fire is still a bigger deal than just creating some (allegedly) unsavory art.

According to police testimony, Assata Shakur didn't do that, Sundiata Acoli did.

Obviously someone isn't aware of the concept of an "accomplice."

Also, I looked up the Johnny Cash issue...his truck overheated causing the fire. So not only is the comparison inapt, it's also deceitful. But not unexpected.

Not even condors. They are dying off because they don't breed enough.

You didn't mention legal culpability in your comment, you spoke of actual actions, these are very different things. An accomplice to a murder is not a murderer even though he will be tried as one.

In general you seem to conflate matters of law with matters of fact, you should work on that.
