During a recent game a Bretonnian mage, stranded by the flight of a nearby unit of Men-at-Arms, managed to pull off a powered up version of the Transformation Of Kadon, choosing to transform into a Mountain Chimera (obviously believeing 10W at T7 was enough protection against S3 Elves and that 4D6 attacks would slice me up on the counter)
During my next turn I managed to charge a unit of 15 Witch Elves against his monstrous mage. Using the Fury of Khaine blessing (+1 attack) and my superior Initiative value I proceeded to inflict 13 wounds (12 of which were from Poisoned Attacks 6s - thank Khaine for hatred) on his Chimera which, lacking any saves, fell into a quivering heap to the amazement of my opponent

I was wondering if any other players with Poisoned Attack units have had similar success in using a unit which appears weak at first glance to bring down big nasties, or whether this was a once in a lifetime gift from Lady Luck which I will never manage again?

Poisoned attacks is the bane of monsters everywhere.

Ask any lizardman player, I cant tell you how often my skinks have brought down giants, gorghons, hydras, and now warsphinxes....

Also yes you were incredibly lucky getting 12 poisons with 20 attacks even with hatred....

Statistically you should have gotten like 5 MAYBE 6

Might have to start making a permanent space for Witch Elves in my army then, with the sudden surge on big monsters recently (Arachnarok, Sphinxes etc.)

Yeah, I couldn't really believe my luck either Maybe somewhere someone could only roll 1s to keep the universe in balance?

Well.... the real big scary monsters, sphinxes, arachnoroks, HPA, Hydra's all have very decent saves to go with their high toughness....

Dont expect to run your witch elves into a hell pit, hydra, or warsphinx and live to tell about it.

A Banner of Eternal Flame will knock out Regeneration saves but I agree, witches are not to be relied on to get it done. Only did it that time because he took me by surprise with that spell and my harder hitting units were out of range (bad planning on my part) so I figured why not?

When I played Skaven I always had my Gutter Runner with poisoned slings and hunt down every big nasty I could find.

Poisoned attacks excellent for Monsters and War Machines.

20 attacks, hitting on 4's, with re-rolls.
Average would be 15 hits, 5 poison and 10 normal; non-poison wounding on 6's, so 6-7 wounds total.
Going up against poison guys, change into something with ARMOR.

I don't think he'll make the same mistake again. I guess he was blinded by the 4D6 attacks lure, which could have ripped my Elves to pieces if he hadn't died in the first round.

Poison is certaintly a monster killer.

necrosphinxs don't have much against it with only having a 5+ armor save(and 6+ regen if a necrotecht is nearby)
