Deep in the Heart of Texas!!!

A rhino is immobilized, then is stunned, can it then repair itself in the next shooting phase. The rules say that the repair is done during the next shooting phase, but since the vehicle cannot shoot due to being stunned, does that mean that it also cannot perform the repair ability?

I believe that it still can because the repair is done during the shooting phase and doesnt have the "instead of shooting" clause for the repair.

SPECIAL RULES
Repair: Rhinos are exceptionally resilient vehicles and can often be repaired by their crew in the heat of battle. If a Rhino is immobilised for any reason, then in subsequent turns the crew can attempt a temporary repair instead of the vehicle shooting. Roll a D6 in the shooting phase, and on a 6 the vehicle is no longer Immobilised.

Emphasis mine.

Doesn't smoke say instead of shooting?

No. Smoke is used after the vehicle completes its move, and PREVENTS it from shooting later that turn.

Self-repair is actually done in place of shooting, and thus is not an option if Shaken or Stunned.

Running is instead of shooting, but noone argues Genestealers cannot run.

That's because Genestealers aren't forbidden from shooting... they just don't have anything to shoot with.

I still read it as there is nothing stopping you

Eldar star engines are ALSO instead of shooting, but you can still use them if shaken.

Actually, even if they had ranged wargear, they're still forbidden from shooting... BS0.

There is no rule that forbids models with a BS of 0 from shooting. We're simply not given any way of resolving the shot... which isn't an issue since they don't have a range weapon to be shooting with anyway.

FAQs have been very consistent in ruling that anything done "instead of shooting" may be done even if the unit is not allowed to shoot, e.g. shaken/stunned

I would think being 'consistent' would require more than a single ruling. Can you find any other than Star Engines ruling?

Having said that, the Star Engines ruling would seem to set a precedent.

In 4th ed yu could still pop smoke, even though that was instead of shooting (in the shooting phase) then

You can also run a walker, when Running is Instead of Shooting.

Smoke has always (at least in 4th and 3rd as well) been used after completing the vehicle's movement.

The walker point is the best one so far:

A walker can run (an action taken instead of shooting) even when shaken.

I always thought the rule was worded that way so a player couldn't shoot and repair the same shooting phase.

Irrelevant to the discussion, but yes, you cannot shoot and repair simultaneously.

Irrelevant to the discussion, but Actually Blessing of the Omnissiah can repair a gun and have it shoot in the same shooting phase.

All The blessing says is that "If a Techmarine is in B2B with a damaged vehicle during the shooting phase, he can attempt to repair it instead of firing..."

It does say, after that, however, that:

"The Gun may be fired in the following shooting phase."

Which, to me, means "the one after the current one"

Maybe I was reading an FAQ (Possibly an out of date one) Cant remember where I saw this.
