Hi,

Just been playing DoW Soulstorm and got thinking whether the Sisters of Battle are available for the table top? If they are, would they affiliate with the GK? If not are they likely to be released by GW?

Cheers

Andy

Sisters of Battle are a long time army (from back in first edition, known as Rogue Trader) that got their first rules and models back in second edition. In third edition, we got updated rules, but no real new lore. Since then, we have not gotten any new models or rules (yes, that means we're still using models from second edition).

You have to buy the models direct from Games Workshop right now, because they do not sell them in their stores at the moment. They are, however, scheduled to get an update, probably late this year or early next.

That pretty much sums it up. Also to save some money I'd wait till the new update comes out for the SoB for plastic models and not metal ones which are rather expensive.

Basically, Sisters were Knights Templar before Black Templar came along and attempted to take that schtick.

Can't really say I agree with "attempted" when they exemplify Knights Templar far better than SoB.

Not really. There are models, but they are 14 years old, monopose and 50+ pounds for 10. You're better off downloading the Witch Hunters codex from the GW website and waiting for plastics like the rest of us.

If they are, would they affiliate with the GK?

No. The Grey Knights aren't really the "affiliating" types, even if you ignore Ward's abominable fluff from the latest codex. Post Ward, they're abhuman, heretical witches, that need to be put to the torch.

I started a SoB Army last winter.

The high price was bugging me, so i often checked eBay for good deals. What I got was 3 full squads of 10 soros, ~15€ for each squad. Since they are metal modells, the color can be stripped easily.

Thats the basic stuff je need, the rest isn´t so expensive, because you don´t need much more models. All the elite troops are mostly just SoB with other weapons.
The rest you need are vehicles, and they are priced pretty standard.

Great replies, thanks very much! Would love to hear more! In all fairness, I still prefer the metal models (as I grew up with them!) to plastic! Don't really mind the price (sometimes!) as they feel more than their plastic counterparts - although they are very annoying when you drop them.

Well if you manage to find the box of ten, grab it as they're now available in blisters instead. So you get to buy the basic troops 3 at a time, which means to make a basic squad you need to buy 3 of them then the sister superior one. Since you can only have two special weapons in a squad it means that third blister gives you 1 for the squad and two for the next.

They're fairly solid models in general though. Basic troops are body and backpack and I have yet to see one fall apart when dropped. Special weapons (Heavy Bolter, Heavy Flamer, Multimelta) however have the gun separate from the body so might need pinning at the wrists. Canoness definitely needs pinning, but comes with a nice bunch of options for a metal model. Exorcist is supposed to be an annoying tank to put together, but I haven't built one myself yet.

You can get their current codex for free in PDF form from GW's website at the moment. However it is missing the ally rule which lets you use them in a Space Marine or Imperial Guard army, and vice versa with the exception of Space Marines if you have Sisters of Battle in the army (codex allows you to make an Ordo Hereticus force as well).

Their play style is kind of interesting, sort of like a close quarters firefight sort of feel to them. Kind of like Space Marines, but at the same time pretty different as well.

Excellent, thanks for the tip on the download! I was initially thinking of adding a load of SoB to my increasing GK!

If you intend to use the Sisters as allies to another army, the download won't do you any good as the allies rules were stripped out of the pdf. You need the actual codex to use the allies rules.
