So I've finally started browsing the 8th mini rulebook heavily and noticed that the lores have a very odd placement to each other... All their symbols roughly equate to on of the four cardinal directions (n s e w) or on of the secondary directions (nw ne sw se). This is not to shocking, as most genres have some sort of magic wheel showing the complimenting and competing winds of magic.
So currently they have
shadow v light (good) n-s
beasts v heavens (ok) nw-se
fire v life (ok) w-e
death v metal (wtf?) sw-ne

that is a very very crude dipiction of the so called magic wheel of warhammer, it's alright, and really has no reason to be changed as it plays no significant role in the game mechanics at all. This has been shyed away from with all the race specific lores that have been added, HOWEVER, I still feel that a little love goes a long way and propose changing the goofy little symbols that no one cares about to match the following:
shadow v light (n-s) same
death v life (nw-se) obvious
metal v heavens (w-e)*
fire v beasts (sw-ne)*

* I considered many if not all combinations of these remaining four. Logically I first considered beasts v heavens, but realized that the beasts shouldnt be adjacent (allied) with either fire or metal, so it had to be next to heavens. That left either a heaven v hell (fire) and beasts v metal; or heaven v metal and beasts v fire.
Both of these seemed alright so I went back to filling the wheel: rotating counter clockwise from north (shadow) you have, shadow, death, ____, ____, light, life, ____, ____. the logical thing for me was to put metal and fire between death and light.
This left: shadow, death, metal, fire, light, life, ____, ____.
at this point I feel it could be filled in either way, but I like to think the beasts are a bit more malicious in the warhammer setting and filled it like so.
This magic wheel is much better IMO as it reflects the nature of the lores better both in a direct opposition standpoint, but also from a wholistic 'nature' of the lores and their relation to each other.

I never noticed the lores and the compass before.

As for metal and death:
Death pulls you apart and puts you into the ground.
Metal collects from the earth to refine and create.

I think you are on to something, I like your choices much more than the original ones. Although, I think I would have gone the heavens v hell (fire) and beasts (nature) v metal (man-made, not really I know, but they build with it). Granted that is all just imho and I have no reference to support my thoughts.

I totally get the heaven/hell aspect, but that is a real world concept. (I'm so nerdy) i figure the sigmar "hell" is The Warp ... Which really isn't associated with fire or being the opposite of the sky (heaven). So I went with metal as I thought it fit the space/earth's core and the aloof/capitalistic dichotomy. Then beasts vs fire is basically the same as beasts v metal: It represents man's intelligent mastery over nature vs the beasts natural affinity.
It seems like the rational behind both options is similer, so I'm glad y'all are onboard with my musings

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

the reason for that is that all the Lores are representitive of the 8 winds of magic.

the symbol for Chaos is also the symbol of the 8 winds of magic.

each arrow is for one of the 8 winds.
