So dakka, on my quest to make an awsome DE army, I am thinking about adding in scourges. 5 scourges with 2 haywire blasters and the squad leader upgrade seem like they would do great as anti- tank. What dose dakka think, what is the best scourge loadout?

I personally like haywire blasters on them. I am afraid of things that ignore lances like LRCs and Monoliths, and the haywire blasters are great for suppressing them. I think blasters would be good too, but I have a lot of lances already in my list.

I do not think the squad leader is worth it, the unit will most likely be up in the enemies business and will be an easy kill. I think its best to keep them light and cheap.

Yah, the list I am going to have has 1 lance and 2 blasters, so I think haywire would ge a good investment.

I have the squad leaders because I like that +1 leadership. I am coming from IG and SM, where squad leaders were free, so its a comfort thing for me I guess.

Suppose that depends on what you are planning to use them for. I personally have a liking for the heat lance (partially because of its pure awesomeness ) - if I were to make them for tank hunting, I'd probably take one heat lance and one haywirer.

I think the 2 best loadouts are:
5 with 2 splintercannons to take advantage of the shard carbines.

5 with 2 heat lances. Heat lances can actually kills things and if trained on infantry will kill something.

IMHO haywire blasters are best for Talos, where they will rarely miss and dont waste any anti infantry shots. The talos is also slow so having a 24" weapon is nice.

The haywire blasters can be ok

DL suck on scourges
Balsters suck on scourges
Shredders can be ok, but I cant see them being better than the shardcarbines in most cases.

TO be fair, DL suck on a lot of things.

The heatlance/ Haywire combo might be nice, as most of the time both will be useful.

I would want one or the other. It woudl look better, and have an optima. You either want to get within 9" and kill something or stay out at 24" and stun things. You cant do both.

And yes in this version of the codex DLs suck on all infantry.

Now I just need to find someone who wants batwings and has an extra haywire blaster.

I'd add me to the pro-haywire blaster camp.

Heat lances and s.cannons both have their uses, but I feel haywire are better anti-mech and that other slots are more likely to provide better anti-infantry for an army before it needs to start dipping into its Fast Attack slots.

Lances seem a very poor idea no matter how much I squint.

Well I know about the Monolith, I can't find the entry for anti-melta for the LRC in the space marine codex unless its an off shoot DA, BA, SW LRC or something. The only thing else I know that's anti-melta is Land Raider Achilles but that's IA anyone else with idea's would love a nice list of Vehicle's with anti-melta listed might pass some better judgment on the whole Heat Lance vs Haywire argument even though its not very heated good to know when to use what at least but I'm more inclined to jump in the Heat Lance Boat.

Black Templar have an upgrade that makes their land raiders immune to the lance effect. Called Blessed Hull.

lances can stand for dark lances or heat lances, which makes me squint.

would a ravager be any good if it could swap out DLs for heat lances? Probably dont have the range but they could race up and meltalance things to death.

I called heat lances, heat lances. Dark Lances get to be Lances because they have seniority.

They'd be better than Scourges, because at least you could maybe flat out move them turn 1 for almost assured rear armor melta action by Turn 2. I'd still stick with Dark Lances though, the range/movement advantage with Heavy weapons on a vehicle is notable, and the Ravager's big draw is its affordable alpha strike component, which it would lose with heat lances.
