My first attempt at a poll thread, please be gentle.

Recently there has been some background in some codex and other publications relating to the Warhammer 40,000 universe that has left some of it hobbyists rather miffed and annoyed. In certain regards I am one of these. I riled against some of the new addition Grey Knights stuff as I felt that it was poorly written and did not do justice to what the Grey knights once were, but that's just my opinion.

What I would like to attempt to find out is what do you care about most in the 40k hobby?

1. Do you only care about the gaming and or painting side of things and have no real interest in the background?

2. That the story and background is as important to you as the actual hobby.

3. You do not actually game at all, but only indulge in the lore and background.

I myself would be a person who would choose option 2. I take part in all aspects of the game and read Black Library publications as well Imperial Armour and others. I believe that the 40k hobby would be lacking if it did not have such an excellent back story and information. It would not make the gaming any less fun, but the stories add further depth into it.

Any insight of how to improve this poll would be appreciated as would your comments

I dont game much anymore but I'm very much into painting and background, but I also like building armies inspired by fluff n' stuff.

40k is mostly the fluff.
Without the background, a Space Marine could appear in almost any SF wargame.
But, the sheer amount of stuff that GW has put into the game over the decades surpasses anything else out there.

I would add another option for just painting/modelling... Some people like just that....

My intention was to encompass modeling under painting.

Really an and or thing.

I didn't want to over complicate the poll as i think the three options more or less cover the aspects of it.

I am a bit surprised at the outcome so far. I was expecting more people to play the hobby without caring about the background honestly.

I really enjoy: reading, collecting, building, playing 40k. It's not that I dislike painting it's just that I'm afraid my stuff won't look well so I hire others for my difficult stuff.

I enjoy immersing myself into every aspect of 40k, the pure escapism is what i love about it, it's too addictive!

The lore. Nothing else matters really, to me. Without the lore the models would be gak, and the painting... feth the painting.

The lore, collecting and modeling are the most important thing for me. Gaming is fun, it kinda gives an extended use for my money spent, more than just as an ornament.

This is a bit more like what I was expecting to see. Although I was still thinking that there would be more people who solely game and or paint/model.

How do the hardcore feel? Do they think that the fluff is necessary?
