So I really like the idea of having super elite space marine cc units with jump packs
and i also really love how customizable they are, however they are just so expensive!!!

I wanted a ten man squad except if I kit them out with Jump Packs and things like lightning claws and
they come out far above a the 400pts for a comparable ten man assault terminator squad.

I think ten is kinda overpowered but still the total was like 730 points (5 2x lightning claws 5 th/ss).

The only better thing about them than terminators is their speed something I do not consider worth 330 points.

They do have their Heroic Intervention rule however so I was wondering if anyone has ever used this effectively.

I have considered that by infiltrating with shrike they will get a first turn charge every game but i was wondering if anyone else had a good
idea of how to use them or if everyone just thinks they are a waste .

any help would be valued.

I wonder if anyone's ever used that heroic intervention ability. No marine player I've seen will even try to field Vv's out of disdain for how pricey they are. Assaulting the turn you DS is devastating though... if you're feeling lucky

they're useful for blood angels, otherwise no

I played against BA (my BA actually, someone was using them) and they multi assaulted 2 leman russes and blew them both up with melta bombs

keep them cheap and cheerful, melta bombs and PWs they drop in, hit a vehicle or unit you don't want bothering you and then usually die

Do BA's have a guaranteed no-scatter or something?

I was planning on using them in an SM army.
PWs, a relic weapon and a power fist. It's fairly cheap and can wreck something expensive before they start taking fire.
Though BA ones are soo much better.

Heroic intervention combined with a teleport homer... no scatter... might work..

descent of angels means they scatter very little, they almost always are in HI range

Teleport homer works only on teleporting units, not other forms of deepstrike. Locator beacons on the other hand works for all forms of DS if I recall correctly.

I've seen Vanguard Vets with powerweps/claws/hammers/fists etc in a Landraider. Seemed to work ok. The 'Terminator Assasinator unit', he called it.

The problem with a unit like that is that Assault terminators do it better and cheaper

in 2500 points, i run a ten man vanguard unit with jump packs. the total squad comes to 440 pts. if the terrain is pretty open, i will deep strike and do a heroic intervention. once took out two monstorous creatures (bugs). other times, they either went somewhere my opponent wanted to, delayed, or destroyed. they are just fluffy for me, as i have said, they go in to make 2500 points from my 2000 point list.

javascript:emoticon(''); 3,000 pointsjavascript:emoticon('');

2,000 points

265 point detachment

Imperial Knight detachment: 375

Iron Hands: 1,850

where ever you go, there you are

=[ I Thought as much...

I might still try them in friendly games cause I too think they are fluffy.

ah well maybe in the next Dex they will become cheaper/better.

Use them as a laser guided bomb, they drop in and waste something bothering you, just don't expect them to live afterwards.

My buddy ran a ton of TH/SS VV's with a few lightning claws. They killed just about everything and swept everything else. Its expensive.. and a gamble of points.. and there are always better options... but it is a fun strategy. BA are amazing with it. everyone else is... meh.

I personally use them quite often. They are especially useful against tau to take out those pesky hammerheads. The strategy I'll use is to take a few drop pods with locator beacons and drop them in key locations and use those to safely place my marines. Generally my opponents don't see the drop pod as high priority so they let it sit most the time.

I use them in my BA DoA army and they never disappointed me.
Thanks to DoA and HI they should be able to charge upon arrival.
In 2000 pts, I take 3 squads of 5 VV's w/ pf.

The only problem with VV is that people fall into the trap of giving everyone fancy weapons. Most of the time, loading up on TH/LCs/whatever is just a waste of points and overkill. The trick is, you want to do enough damage that you win whatever you drop against in 2 assault phases (yours and then your opponents) and then move on. Giving everyone fancy weapons, or even using a 10 man squad, is not a good way to do this.

Ok what would be the optimal load out, to take care of Mech and to stand chance against infantry...?

I mean i am planning to use mine VV in "mech" list as the distraction, to tie long range anti-tank into combat, while mine LR's/SR's will proceed.

Well, the policy is to charge the shooters and to shoot the chargers.
So in this case, the VV's should charge shooting units.

Yes i know, but what would be "enough" to make them survive, i mean VV's super unit with TH/SS all-around, its nice idea, but costly for one unit... Therefore i was asking what would be enough to ensure target is in CC or that ugly leman russ is gone in wreck heaven...

I am embarrassed. I use my termies like this. I got jump marines a while back and have tried it but they get shredded, so I might upgrade to VV and try again.

I once played a custom scenario where one of my main objectives was to destroy a tower with 3 structure points. Being evil as I am (was playing smurfs at the time) I dropped 5 VV's with meltabombs next to it and turned it into a smoldering ruin on turn 2.

In a more "normal" game, go BA or go home.

My RB is packed up for now (game night tonight!) but can they run and HI?

If so using Shrike and VV (not together mind you) might be pretty sweet!
