this is both very fun, and competetive, called kan wall

take about 9 kans, 2 big meks with KFF, take a shizzle load of sluggas and/or shootas, and if possible lootas for fire support. Basic plan is:

kans walk forward, with boyz slogging in behind, boyz get a 3+ cover save from the kans, and the kans get a 4++ save from the big meks. Simply walk over your enemy. Keep the big meks close to you kans, with the KFF covering as many as possible. I haven't tried it myself, so I welcome any ork players who have to fill in the gaps.

Basically, you can mix any ork units, as long as you don't mix walkers and footsloggers with fast stuff like bikes, pikk-ups or battlewagons. There are practically no units in the codex which are really unplayable, so as long as you don't care for competitiveness, play whatever you like.

Another option would be picking one of the Klanz and build an army after their image, most of those work well, too.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Don't the boys get a 4+ cover save from the Kans? How would they get a 3+?

Going to the ground I guess... Kanz also get 4+ cover, not 4++. But even if the numbers are off, his advice is right.

Well, the Kanz get a 4+ cover save from the KFF and moreover the Boyz a 5+ cover save.

I'd stick to a Kan wall. Its nice to see when the Kanz crush into whatever they face.

My apologies, I don't play orks myself, but merely hang around the tactics and battereports forum

Boyz would get 4+ from standing/slogging behind the wall of kans. Not sure about 3+. You basically get to walk your ENTIRE army around with a 4+ to everyone...its amazing.

i kind of lol'd when you said you don't care about winning with your army of all boyz, cuz generally you WILL win since many armies are only suited to beat green horde IF they only set up to play against green horde

I think mech orks are a lot more fun to play than kan wall. You've got more speed/flexibility, the same 4+ save with a KFF, and you can smash things with deffrollas! It's also a lot faster to play, because on the first few turns you'll only have 6-10 models to move. In a kan wall you have to move 100+ models every turn.

I would say use 2 Warpheads. You never know what is going to Happen. There rolls are fun to make. I would use trukks with this build so you can use Ramshakle Put the Warpheads with a Group of 30 Boys and hope for a teleport. Anyone is the Ork army that has random rolls on what they do is a lot of fun. You and the other player never knows what is going to happen. A shockgun would be fun to bring in this mix aswell. since it is so ramdom.

I run a fan list of randomness once in a while-

HQ-

old zogwort
SAG Big Mek

Troops

Deff dredd w/2 KMB
bunch of boyz

Heavy

Zaap gun battery
Boomwagon looted wagon
Flash gitz

Elites

Lootas
Kommandos
Tankbustas w/bomb squigs

Stormboyz and buggies on Fast Attack

It's about as competitive as a one legged sprinter in the regular olympics, but it's hilarious to play, and tends to throw people a curve once in a while..

I'm thinking of doing something like this but using Zogwort and a Warphead as HQ, tossing in Snikrot and some Kommandos, several Koptas, and a couple of Zzap gun batteries. Fill in the rest with boys in trucks and Nobs & Burnas in BWs and I think it'll be a lot of fun to play. And remember, even if you lose the mission, turning the opponent's uber-IC into a squig counts-as a win ;-)

If you want 'fun', go for all the units which have wildly variable result tables - warphead, big mek with shock attack gun, Zzapp guns on vehicles, etc. The unpredicatility will at least make games entertaining, and will even win you a few games via good dice rolls.

I'm with Clang - to me, nothing says "just for fun" list like rolling randomly to decide the fate of nearly every unit in your army.

Deffnitely. Though I do think nothing but Boyz and Warpheads would be incredibly fun. And with a Warphead, you'll almost never roll 'eadbanger.

For me, fun is not just random, but special, game changing moves.

With this in mind, Take a unit of Kommandos with Snikrot. Be sure to mention you have Snikrot several times to your opponent until he comes in from reserves. Especially during his movement phases. Watching your opponent glance at your Snikrot model on the side, or glare at the board edge is priceless.

Watch with glee as he fears da sneaky-ist ork.

Personally, I find the most fun in fielding fewer models than my opponents.

Yep, you heard me right. And yes, I play Orks. I think it's fething hilarious to have fewer models than a Marine player, and still win (occasionally).

To that end, I absolutely adore Meganobz. Sure, it stinks to high heaven when you run into a power weapon squad without Cybork, but they more than make up for it when they're chasing a Shooty Drednaught practically off the board.
