I'm planning a small BA DoA army - some marines require storm shields so I was thinking about making them from bitz and making them suitably blood angely.

This is what I've come up wiht so far:

Any thoughts on how to improve it? Should I fill the gaps?

I'm thinking that I might cast some up so that the gap would be filled, but with a thinner layer.

That looks rather neat. I would be inclined to leave the gaps open. The SS is supposed to include an energy field, so that can easily cover the gaps

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Maybe cut off the eagle tails so that it is just wings coming from behind the BA symbol?

That would lend it a more balanced shape as well.

Leave the gaps!

That's pretty cool. Yes, I'd remove the feet/tails and also move the eagles closer together so the gap is a little smaller and balanced against the gap you add by removing the tail. Add some purity seals, and you're golden.

Also, I'm wholeheartedly stealing this idea.

I think it looks perfect as it is now. The feet/tails add to the symmetry of the shield and the gap is just right for a nice field of view while the shield is being employed. I wouldn't change what you have one iota. What you can do to gauge they difference in look between current vs no feet/smaller gap is photoshop it and do a side-by-side image.

Also, I second the addition of purity seals and/or scrolls and I think you have a brilliant touch to your BAs.

LoL! Thanks for the support! My BA are going to be 'pimped' - purity seals everywhere ,scrolls... and so on.

I was thinking... surely the shields needs to be light/easily moveable and the gaps allow you to see through - while implying an energy field as mentioned! I wil try a 'tail'-less versin.

Just for clarity the bits are all from a drop pod (1 drop pod should get you 2 shields this way!)

If you have dark angels stuff kicking around, you could easilly remove the wings and re-task them. They'd be more substantial and might look more interesting...

If you dont, DA kits come with outrageous ammoutns of those things, so theyre fairly easy to acquire.

It doesn't matter how bloody far the apple falls from the tree. If the apple fell off of a Granny Smith, that apple is going to grow into a Granny bloody Smith. The only difference is whether that apple grows in the shade of the tree it fell from.

Looks good, except the aquilla 'tails' poking out look wrong somehow.

Hmm, how about a storm shield made from a Sanguinary Guard 'wing'?

Would need a lot of wings and they aren't easy to get! Basically the bits I've used are spares/junk. However I got some sang guard today - I could pimp the shields with the extra wings bitz
