I know they just FAQ'd this question to say that if there is a space available, a character has to move to the front rank. Here is my question:

If I have a unit 5 wide, with a Full Command Group, and Lord character, and a Hero character. If I add another Hero character to the unit, can he got to the second rank? Or must he replace a FC model? I'm leaning toward he CAN go to the second rank since there isn't a spot on the front rank for him. Or would he move a Champion, Standard Bearer, or Musician to the second rank?? let me know what you think.
Thanks Dakka

Your command group has priority in the front rank, so if you are 5 wide, with full command and 2 heroes, a third guy can hide in the back. Except now, courtesy of the FAQ, someone could poke the champion in the eye, and pull that third character forward...

By the same token, if my champion gets killed and my other character moves to the front rank. If i resurrect my champion model, will he displace a character back to the second rank?

I would suppose so. As soon as he arrives, he needs to go in the front, so would have to displace somebody.

That's not completely true. Characters can displace command models while in combat with the step up rule.
If the champ got whacked, and the 3rd character is forced forward, I would say that the champ comes back in the 2nd rank. But, thanks to Make Way, he could displace with the standard or musician to get back into the fight.

Command groups are allways in the front unless they have speciffic permission to not be (bret lance formation), that means the revived chump will indeed push a character backwards.

Would this also mean that if you have full command in a unit, it must be 3 wide?

If the unit is two wide or less the command group have specific permission to go further back.
It's all explained in the rulebook you might wanna give it a skim.

Nope. It just tells you command MUSt occupy the first rank, if able.

Well, technically it doesn't say "if able." It says in the front rank or the rank behind.

So this would still prevent a one wide unit if you had 3 command. Because you cannot place the command in the front rank or "in the rank behind." (pg. 92)

That is correct, nice catch
See what you can do by actually reading the rulebook

I had read the rulebook beforehand, thanks though. Maybe you are the one that should be reading it more closely
