Subject: Was anything ever explained about the race called the Demiurg?
|

Been Around the Block
|
I was looking through the Forgeword Battlefleet Gothic the other day and saw the Demiurg ships with the following write up:
"The mysterious and solitary race known as the Demiurg have, thus far, only two classes of vessel formally identified by the Inquisition. The type classified as Stronghold-class is typical of Demiurg vessels, being very large, technologically advanced and extremely well powered. The Stronghold-class appears to act as factory/processor vessels and bases for a vast array of smaller industrial craft.
It is worth noting that while the Demiurg generally disengage and withdraw if challenged, all recorded contact between Demiurg and Ork vessels has resulted in ferocious combat. As warships, the Stronghold is slow but well-defended, boasting impressive firepower."
I don't remember seeing this race mentioned elsewhere, so I was curious if there was more information for them out there.

They are essentially the Squats...
They aren't actually the Squats but they are very similar to the point that they are like coke and pepsi (without the fact that coke is obviously better)
They are also known allies of the Tau and many hope for them to feature in the next Tau codex.

they are space dwarves.
After GW got rid of squats and realized they shouldn't have they decided they needed something dwarf-ier.

They're "space dwarfs" in the loosest sense (they're small individuals with beards and master craftsmen/miners).
So far, all we know about them is that they're slightly dwarven and they're friendly with the Tau.

From what I understand, they are GW's safety-net if the unwashed masses rise up and protest the right to have Space Dwarves. But as far as fluff goes, they are great craftsmen, and traders, and are allies of the Tau.

No, they haven't failed to mention it.
The opening for Gav Thorpe's "The Purging of Kadillus", a Dark Angels novel recently published, has Orks boarding and looting a Demiurg ship. They're very clearly described as small statured, bearded, and slightly rotund.
