I was just reading the codex and then the thought of putting a sag. priest in a dev squad. My idea would be giving the squad a lascannon and one or two plasma cannons. Use the lascannon to open the ride up and then next turn, kill what got out with the plasma cannons. I just think plasma looks more and more appealing with BA, space wolves, and GK becoming more prevelent in tournies. Then i thought, well put a sag. priest to keep them alive longer. I'm just wondering if anyone else has done this and if it works.

Seems like a good idea but its costly the priest can do better in an assault squad.

For devs try running 3 squads of 5 men with 4 missile launchers (if you run a DOA army ie no vehicles) they are nasty haha 12 missiles a turn muahaha can kill marines templates for hordes and anti armor and what 130 points good times.

I'm not looking for an anti tank dev squad, but a good anti infantry squad that doesn't have to melee. Sternguard is the other option, but they tend to be a suicide squad most of the time. I personally believe oblits are one of the best units in the game still and i was thinking making a unit as similar to them. With a three plus save and feel no pain it is a 1/6 chance of taking a wound. With putting six men in a squad and have a lascannon at bs 5 and 3 plasma cannon shots, its very similar to oblits. I realize that they can't move and fire, but plasma is making a comeback. Its so nice to drop a template and be like "4 marines, 4 dead marines". I have enough anti tank in my army, just need more ranged anti infantry other than sternguard.

Here goes... I run 2 different Dev Squads and the results of each are mostly based on targets. one is a 5 man w/ 4 MLs and the other is a 10 man that combat squards w/ 2 plas cannons and 2 las cannons (the sarg goes with the las cannons for 5 BS where it counts). I also tend to keep a Sag. Priest in the area to stop small arms fire and with the Dark E. and GK having so many shots on the run I find him to be worth his points just simply to take out the Ld test for 25% casualties. I don't run the Priest with any equipment, just for the FNP and Leadership in a non sargent squad.
Note that a good quantity (1/3 or more) of fire that can actually reach you is mostly the stuff that DOES NOT allow FNP, so if running gun line I take a techmarine and get that 3+ cover for a firebase. This setup is ... hard ... to disloage in most cases. And if you really want to kick it up a notch just have some counter charge hanging around. If they rush the now the Furious charge can be used as well.

Looking at the problem is different from solving it, though observation is a part of the process

As the Sanguinery Priest makes your troops around him stronger in melee, he wouldnt have that much effect. If you dont use their red thirst abilities, you best put them in an other squad.

12 missile launchers can make a mess of the enemy if you put a priest in then you just waste 50 points give him a jp and run him with assault marines to make them stronger and live longer the devs are not there to kill everything they are for crowd controll and close fire support.

The assault marines do the killing.

People really underestimate FNP devestators. If assault marines already have FNP and devestators do not have FNP guess who is going to get shot with high str crap AP weapons?

It's not to hard to include 2 dev squads and a scout squad inside the priests FNP bubble, especially if you remember only half of the squads needs to be deployed in cover to get the bonus. Give the scouts a cammo cloak and ML, then attach the priest to the scouts. The scouts are now a scoring unit inside the FNP bubble, and if the scouts get shot at go to ground for a 2++ cover 4+ FNP.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.
